Play brostep, or no gigs at all?

I've done a couple of house parties. What I try and do is educate the crowd, then throw in the well known stuff (Flux, Nero, Doctor P etc.) every so often. I've got a good response so far, so it must be working. Don't just play tear out for hours on end, it gets boring. The crowd will appreciate the heads down business as a rest, and hopefully youll put people on to a few new producers to listen to.

So pretty much start off the night with some deeper dubstep, but still a little tearout, then maybe throw in some electro/ house stuff, and then please the crowd with the more bro-y stuff. Sounds pretty solid to me.

And when people start getting tired drop some more vibey tunes, to let em chill too!
Also, I like to think my mixes might look like the structure of a tune. Start with some deep tunes, start working your energy up, more energy in "the drop"(this is where you drop brostep if you want), then som more deep but not for long cause the energy is going to be back soon, another "drop", then the outro.

Buy a cheap Luchadore wrestling mask, get a cape, call yourself "El Hombro!" and that way you can play double the amount of gigs without being seen to sell out. Play the more commercial brostep tracks, use the money you'll earn to finance your deeper tracks/equipment/lifestyle.

i gave this nearly identical advice to a friend of mine a month ago. i told him to invent a character that could be eventually translated into an action figure. that way he could get over his ego and rock out with strictly booty house or whatever until you get sick of it and shed it like a lizard.

you are in it for ALL the wrong reasons kid.... Djing is about love... a passion for the music, you got to feel every track you play

My advise, go find the people in your town that do this, im sure there is an unground scene somewhere, ditch the laptop, be real to yourself, find likeminded people like yourself... you are 16, lots of time to CREATE your own scene.. start something special

or just be a bedroom dj with a hacked copy of virtual DJ like everyone else and go HAM on that sync button!

@BASED but if playing music he's not super passionate about at house parties is the only option other than playing in his bedroom like you said, wouldn't it be better at least for the experience?
then, later on when he does have multitudes of other opportunities, HE.WILL.BE.REAAAAADDYYYYYYYY
and, if he's having a good time, who the hajj cares?

Exactly what i am thinking. I kinda want experience. Even if I start my own "movement" it wont happen if I can't be a DJ in front of a crowd.

Modifying your selection to fit in/get more gigs/get money/get love is WEAK.
If you enjoy brostep, play it. If you're just going to play it to fit in and get more gigs then fuck off. Leave it to someone who at least enjoys the music. I don't mean to be harsh but in my opinion, DJing is 100% about pushing music you believe in.

agreed, sometimes u get people from the same regular local crowd like 'why dont u play more stuff people like?' lol, and i have mates that say this to me, but the whole point is getting a range of DJs on to fill a wider criteria - some more housey/tech/funky with deeper/darker stuff in another room or earlier doors, even if people dont know the tunes you can still satisfy a range of heads (i think thats the whole point?)... depending on crowd you'll usually get sections of the audience into different djs, never play stuff u dont actually like, dont turn down a gig - but if your asked to play summit n it doesnt seem like the right crowd maybe let the promoter know?
