Bass Speed Automation?
Hey guys
I had a question about how to go about automating my bassline speeds, im in logic and at the moment i normally click a point thats connected to rate in massive and them increase or decrease the slope but sometimes it changes speed mid cycle below is an example. So i wanted to know how to go about getting more precise defined modulations. also I find it har to draw in the points to get a following note back to the default tempo, any tips on how you guys sort your automation would be really useful especially if related to logic! since its something I cant quite master on my own.
edit: its the first part of the lower bass section thats automated.

Instead of automating the rate nob, set the LFO to sync and duplicate the track and have each track at a different speed.
Then only place midi data on the speed you want playing, obviously.

Re: Bass Speed Automation?
The Automation takes a bit to get used to, but honestly, once you do it good one time, you'll get it. Automate the rate (i always set the rate to a macro and automate the macro), and just find what values are in time and just draw bridges around each note. So if you want to it go 1/4 just find where that is, draw to points and move it over the midi note. If you create small glides to the automation when you switch speeds it usually sync's up nicely, though sometime you have to tweak it around.

this for sure man, and then tweak each instance a little to help diversify your bass sounds. Bounce/freeze tracks if cpu is a concern.CASIOASSASSIN wrote:Instead of automating the rate nob, set the LFO to sync and duplicate the track and have each track at a different speed.

You also could bounce down clips of different LFO rates and then process them datsik stylee then chop up to create diferent varying wobble bassslines. No automation just chop editing.
I have also just hand rolled lfos for a whole track, midi learned lfo rate to a knob and jsut took a couple takes at wobbling it by hand. It worked pretty well but was i relaly prefer duplicate and vary midi data like a boss.

heres my attempt at cutting up the same line with different set rates rather than any automation

Re: Bass Speed Automation?
What blinx said, not sure about a tutorial but its easy enough. Change rate to 1/4. Resample / Freeze + flatten or whatever works best for your DAW. Change rate to 1/8 + repeat, do that for as many speeds as you want. Now you only need drag + drop audio or assign these samples to a sampler and you're good to go. I prefer this way than to working with midi anyway, just be kinda happy with your bass before you decide to bounce.

I really wouldn't bother automating bassline modulations. Either use different instances of massive with difference speeds (the easiest option) or if you want something different that sounds a little less rigid try using lfo's on lfo's. Also using envelopes assigned to LFO's are a really good way to mix things up.
Abstrakt.
