my rating for this 'guide to dubstep' : i give it a mehhhh

i live in san francisco and go to dubstep shows usually 2-3 times a month, mostly at clubs but also some of the bigger venues. i am usually rolling balls and love to dance. maybe i will be considered a philistine by this online community, but i can honestly say that love this genre with all of my heart :U:
smh
I totally agree with you and if you're a newb what does that make me?? I found out about dubstep only 5 months ago and I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH!!! AHHHH!!! :6: :6: :e: :N: :C:
I watched this vid by christina grimme with her rockin out to skrillex and im like aaaaahhhhh love it so then i like listened to him for the rest of the day, and then i discovered some more dubstep and gave "dub fever" to most of my friends. I've also noticed a lot of hate for skrillex on youtube and this site, and just because hes gay and has a very um.... unique haircut I love him more than anything in the world and I think that everyone thinks that he's trying to hog dubstep and take all its glory for himself, when hes not. He has his OWSLA label to support other dubsteppers, and you can't judge someone by their sexuality.
Holy shit, please stop talking...

In other news, I've always thought this thread would be better if the first post started with the basics (Anti-War Dub, Haunted, Midnight Request Line, Night, Goat Stare, Archangel, things of that ilk) rather than jumping straight into post-dubstep and the really, really underground shit. Any chance they could be edited into the OP ahead of the other stuff? Probably better that they're the first things newbies hear, rather than James Blake haha

lol yeah trolling no doubt. Any mods aboot?

And i just thought, @ someone who made a good point about my selection of tunes on the first post, I do agree with you. For a thread called new to dubstep etc. it does go a bit off the rails. And yeah, a dmz back catalogue + tempa 8-20 or something would probably do a better job, but when i made this thread it was more about just dubstep with something interesting going on. The real musical side of dubstep, rather than the absoloute waste of space that is 90% of it today. I just wanted a refuge thread for people making music rather than a throwaway attempt to make 16 year olds mosh. But yeah, it got changed after to the New to dubstep thread, which is cool but yeah my first post isnt exactly covering the basics. I think most have popped up since though so I dont mind leaving it as it is.

Anyway, if there was a few people who thought dubstep = I only know (what I know now) due to this thread, im a happy man regardless!

edit: oh, and jungle fears is true dread vibes, no doubt.

As for me - new to dubstep production, this post didn't help me much. I understand idea behind, to let people know about dubstep X years ago but coming here I expected small tutorial, not memory corner. And to add from me personally - any kind of music is evolving - why not let dubstep to evolve too? So I disagree with opinions that dubstep antics were better that dubstep today. The dubstep is just different - it just evolved. That's all I wanted to say.

Love,

Evo

This isn't a guide to production, we have a whole forum for that. Also I don't know what you mean as the tunes in this thread span from early 2000's to now. Hope this clears things up for you!

What are you talking about? A lot of the songs in the first post came out in 2010... Not only that, but a lot of those tunes (James Blake for example) show dubstep at its most 'evolved'

And where does it say anything about production? This thread is for new dubstep listeners

LOL. Just LOL. This is the first time I've read through this thread since it was a couple of pages long. The attitudes of some people. Oh dear.

Dubstep can and has evolved into more than just brostep.

Dubstep >>> Brostep :a:

Dubstep >>> Many weird and wonderful strains of bass heavy (and not so bass heavy) music. :h:
