slim shady LP was great, marshall mathers LP was nice.. slowly fell off after that imo. I'm a sucker for that old school sample sound, Pete rock, DJ premier, Showbiz, 9th Wonder etc. Some sick beats in this vid

I'm a sucker for that too, but eminem never really dropped backwards IMO. His newer stuff is different, not the same feel at all, but I still really dig it. Much better than lil wayne or whatcrap.

Listen to some of the darker stuff like Roots Manuva's first album of Temples of Boom by Cypress hill. the atmospheres are great which sometimes get overlooked in hiphop.
But yeah I personally prefer the oldskool sound compared to the 808's everywhere sound and breakbeats like the Funky Drummer the Apache and the Amen (Cough *rinsed to fuck* Cough) are a great tool for a human drum sound.
also Barry White often has exposed drum beats in his songs, I ripped the beginning of this track for the drums and chopped up the break in Recyle for the seperate sounds and the groove.

I tend to avoid avoid that trap shit. its just boring and uninspiring.

even if you don't dig el-p as a rapper, you have to respect the mans production skills

def jux has to be one of my fave hip hop labels period

hiphop is the one - its around the 80-110 range.

Most of the pop music was rapping it these days (which people class as hiphop these days.. which is truely wrong) is around the 120-150 range.

I dabble in a bit of hiphop - its similar to Dubstep in terms of production just good grooves with samples/bass/drums.

yea most of the pop hip hop is truly club music to the lowest common denominator
the thing i love about el-p is he goes all over
the tune homeboy said he dug earlier in this thread i'll link again is right at 70/140 and great for blending into sets

i dunno i'm into the whole brainfeeder "aquacrunk" (fuck you journalists for that name) la sound
and the guys like krush, nujabes, dilla etc who pushed old school sampling forward and brought instrumental hip hop to the forefront

Since it's just 10 lousy shitpoints worth nothing to either you or I, here is the original tune that was sampled in that Digable Planets tunes.

This album was produced by the mighty Mizell Brothers who pretty much were one of the main catalysts in me wanting to produce.

It seemed me that in order to really know your stuff, you had to really know good music (that is a subjective opinion of course). I wonder if kids really take the time to do that anymore?
