Skiing (Europe)
Secret Ninjas I need your help! Can anyone recommend a semi-decent place for skiing/snowboarding that isn't too expensive? Preferably around £500 all in. Probably gonna be tough but some mates are on a tight budget!
Re: Skiing (Europe)
Thanks, it still sounds good. The installment payments might help some of my mates.

done a few seasons, and loathe the cliche tour operators. probably good fun though. if you want to do your own thing though and there's enough of you, could work out cheaper to rent a small place. if you get on the cham share (instructions here http://chamx.com/wiki/About_the_cham-share_mailing_list ) mailing list locals (of Chamonix) will hook you up with info. As for best places, Val Thorens. highest station with 600km of piste and a dope park.
Re: Skiing (Europe)
Cheers - yeah we were in VT last year, wanted to go some place different. Will give that mailing list a go!
Re: Skiing (Europe)
is that with your ski equipment (assuming you don't have your own) included? you'll struggle to find £500 all-in with ski equipment at a decent resort, sestriere (italy) is usually quite cheap and the lift pass is for the milky way ski area (loads of runs) so you can ski from italy into france.

Can normally find cheap stuff in France, but if you fancy something a bit different there seem to be good deals in the East nowadays... Bulgaria seems a decent shout.

go elsewhere in the 3 valley area, im a particular fan of courchevel/la tania area but its all good around there IMO
Re: Skiing (Europe)
Yeah I quite like all of those, did VT/Meribel/Courchaval last year. The others are on a bit of a budget though.
I've been vetoed on the East european places so far, on grounds they're not as advanced, etc. Difficulty between a bunch of people who are paid well and want luxury and a bunch of people who are students. Sigh. If anyone can suggest any that are good, I'll run it past my mates!

Re: Skiing (Europe)
Gonna book something for February or March, I think... I didn't get away last year and need to strap my board back on... early season definitely looking a bit ropey though! Three Valleys is always a decent shout, gotta stick to a budget this year I reckon...

Re: Skiing (Europe)
nice, yeah thinking of feb too. VT is definitely the best for cost of living/ food/ drink etc. If snow isn't looking up might have to look into tignes too, those glacier sitting, high altitude mufuckas always do alright for snow even on a bad season
Re: Skiing (Europe)
Smaller resorts like morzine or morillon tend to be a bit cheaper if you wan't to stick in france but the facilities really arent as good. Bulgaria is said to pretty good but i don't know how easy it is getting there and stuff. I've had good experiences in Austria and Andorra. I've always been skeptical about late season skiing, nothing worse than getting half way down a slope and having to take your skis off and walk the rest of it in your boots!

Anything high up on Mont Blanc has to be pretty safe... Swiss Alps are a NO on a bad year.murky21 wrote:nice, yeah thinking of feb too. I kind of fancy Austria again actually... Mayrhofen makes a nice base and they always have well kept parks now that Snowbombing goes there and everything's sponsored. Was up there in late March a few years ago and they were still getting shit loads of fresh fall.

No need to go abroad. I heard Scotland has good spots! Can't for the life of me remember the names though...

Sad thing is, you could probably get to Chamonix quicker from London...topmo3 wrote:No need to go abroad. I heard Scotland has good spots! Can't for the life of me remember the names though...
