Honestly, if you are just starting get yourself a relatively cheap midi with faders and knobs, an m-audio oxygen 25/49 or an AKAI MPK 25/49 is more than enough. I would say the first things to buy would be a cheap keyboard, decent studio monitors, working software, and maybe a cheap soundcard. Try not to worry about what kind of gear you have until you have a defined sound and really understand the fundamentals of production.
