Dubstep Labels?

Post by Cyren » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:42 pm

Anybody got some list or something of dubstep labels? I looked at beatport and sent demos to the labels who got tracks in the top100. Big names like Circus or Play Me and around 20 other labels. But i havent even got any reply so far. So if anyone could suggest me some smaller labels which release filthy stuff it would be nice.

And if some user who owns a Label is listening heres an impression of my music:

By "filthy" are we talking old school grimey filth, or wonky Circus Records filth?

Also its not hate. Its just people shouldnt have to do your work for you. What DJs have played your tracks so far? Also how long have you been producing for? Im at work so havent listened to your tracks, but there is so much ''filth'' out there these days what makes you different?

tbh mate i don't think you're ready for labels yet. work on your production, send stuff out to DJs, get them to drop your tunes in mixes, get stuff onto youtube channels, collab with some other producers of a similar style, build up soundcloud followers, get some 'buzz' going... maybe then you'll be ready for a release

First off, I avoid filthy dubstep myself. I think there's no inspiration left and every thing possible has been done to death. Having said that, I promised I'd be more lenient towards you people. After all, tastes differ and to each their own and that. Having said that, I've been enjoying bass music (assuming this is still about bass music) since 1997, so I'd like to think I have some experience with it.

Now, I took a long and hard listen at your tracks, and actually, I don't think they are that bad at all. I could see some of this stuff getting released on some of the sub par labels others above me have described (chronos etc.). Sub par in my humble opinion of course. I think you've managed to implement some melody and a bit of a rhythm I imagine the bro's will dig. In short, I've heard tunes far worse than this by more prominent names and new members of the board a like. But its nothing new under the sun at all.

However.

1) There is no bass in any of the three tunes, at all. I understand that midrange is more important (and that is not meant in a belittling way, it's a fact) than good sub bass in the style you are going for. But, as everyone should have, I have a fat ass subwoofer hooked up here and I'm hardly getting any bass at all. Try beefing up the tracks a bit. I think the higher and midrange frequencies are actually sufficiently done.

2) The third track is drum & bass, not 'dubstep'. Try sending it to a d&b label...lol.

That is all. Hope you get big. But people seem to be getting into music just because they want to get that dough, or get that recognition. You should make music for yourself that comes from your own heart. And then, you will get noticed...try your own thing.
Of course, feeding of other artists around you is allowed.

Yeah big up Jesus for dying for our sins and netting us a public holiday in the process.

The difference is his tracks have absolutely no bass. Seriously, how do you think you're gonna get released on a bass music label when your music has no bass?

it doesnt matter though, before release he can just add a sub bass plugin to beef up the bass, or cant the mastering engineer just boost the base? problem solved! bare bass!
