Is "Native Instruments Komplete 8 Ultimate" Worth it?

Post by bozoy » Tue Dec 27, 2011 9:01 am

Well so the thing is that I kinda have a thousand dollars and I was wondering how good of an investment (me blowing my G bar) would it be? is it really going to help me as much as they say they do with production and such? is it the reason why my drops dont sound like skrillex or knife partys? Anything better I could spend the G on?
thanks a million,
Bozoy

I haven't bought Komplete. I do have Massive though.

I would:

1. Buy a DAW
2. Buy monitoring headphones or monitor speakers.
3. If you feel like it, maybe an audio interface.

Anybody who I've talked to who has bought Komplete tells me that you get so much for the price that it would take multiple lifetimes to take the time to explore it all. Based on that, and the fact that you get Reaktor with it, I would have to say that it's worth it. ;-)

It won't make your drops sound like Skrillex or anything...that stuff is up to the artist, not the tools.
...in my opinion

I'd also buy some Cableguys stuff and maybe a compressor that doesn't come with my DAW.

You certainly don't need Komplete 8 Ultimate.

Komplete 8 however is worth it totally.

Look at all the shit that each package comes with on the comparison page. You don't need a lot of it (alicia's keys, session strings pro, george duke, for example).

For me, FM8, Absynth, Reaktor, Guitar Rig, Kontakt, Massive, and Battery's library is sufficient. And consider the price of all those things separately, and then consider the price of Komplete 8 and all the other shit that's in it.. gold.

Skrillex uses FM8 for a lot of his basses. Along with a shitload of work.

If you don't have a DAW, and you're on Mac, I suggest dropping 200 on Logic. If you're on PC, get Ableton Live (NOT the Suite).

And also get Komplete. I highly doubt you'll regret it. But I think you could easily regret Komplete 8.

Why not Ableton Suite? I'm not defending it but I'd like to know. Just because they'd be buying Komplete?

Komplete 8 Ultimate is a blast, but do you need it ?

first do u use a daw, which one ?

second what do you need ?, are you happy with your drum, your sample, your fx ?

if you need a daw => cubase
if you need a groovebox feeling dao => maschine or live
if you need a synth => massive
if you need many tools, a full featured set with all best product in MAO and great sample librairies => Komplete
if you need new sample => loopmaster sample cd
if you need mixing fx => fabfilter bundle

(i love NI product.. i own maschine, massive & guitar rig they are definitly the tools who best fit to me)

I love the NI Products such as Massive and FM8 and Absynth.

I use Logic, which is a great program, but its synths are simply not up to par with the native instruments VSTS.

If you're wantIng a Skrillex like bass, Massive is definitely the synth. FM8 is great too.

No you won't get 'better' sounding drops with it. Don't get it btw. Just test out some daws and go with
what feels right. I'd try these: Reason, Logic(mac), Cubase, Ableton

Ok, well here's my set up:
Laptop : hp envy 14 beats edition
DAW: Ableton live suite 8.2.7 + old version of massive (cracked, it bugs out a bunch) + all of suite's synths/samples and stuff
Midi: M-audio axiom 49, Launchpad
Monitors: Krk Rpg rocket 8's + 10" sub
Monitor Headphones: Beats Pro

So what I need is samples, synths, and an interface .
the "komplete 8 " bundle has a packaged bundle in which they offer their "audio 6" interface for $200, so essentially, It would come with everything I need.
Is there anything else you guys think I should consider investing in?

Cause the shit it comes with sucks
Electric and Tension are kinda neat but Reaktor shits all over them

Why not buy a few production books along with Komplete? This one helped me a lot: http://www.amazon.ca/Mixing-Audio-Conce ... 0240520688

i got komplete 6 which is less than $300 now. I learned on reason, which is great for synths IMO, reason 4 might set you back $200 now I reckon. I also just got ableton's orchestral instrument collection which I've been dying to get because I'm into symphonic and film score type stuff. we'll see how much I use it but I'm guessing I'll use the komplete stuff: read massive and fm8 about as much as the orchestral stuff. it took goddamn 3 hours to install and update and I doubt I'll ever even get a chance to listen to half of the stuff that came in Komplete 6.

and beats suck for the price.

Since you're using ableton, maybe grab Ableton Live Power.

If I pirate 2000$ worth of software...will I ever be able to make a melody?

TBH I would drop a grand on software. Just invest it. why the fuck would you need all those synths and shit. Just learn how to learn one and you can work magic.

yep first you need real headphones ;) http://www.jays.se/ http://www.akg.com/

but then i think komplete is a good choice to complete your setup.

the cheaper way would be to go with 2/3 sample cd and a real version of massive.

maybe if you own too much synth you'll never learn to use one of them but will just use your huge presets librairies, and using preset you can make decent tracks, but you'll never rock the scene..

i would also recommand falbfilter plugins for mixing tools, you already have all mixing tools ready in ableton suite, but the fabfilter one are really great.
