It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

During this time of year, starting in the autumn, all of the breweries in the Pacific Northwest release their winter ales. These are all usually quite dark and with a strength of 7% alcohol. Is this something that happens in other places? Do you get a seasonal winter ale that comes out where you live?

My two favorites right now are Full Sail's "Wassail" from Hood River, Oregon and Pyramid's "Snow Cap Ale" from Seattle, Washington.

Ya pretty much every American craft brewery releases seasonal brews. And like you said usually the winter seasonals are the heartiest and have the most alcohol.

Personally I prefer the summer seasonals though, especially Sam Adams Summer Ale......yummy.

I'm really into lager since trip to Berlin. They had some quality beers there. Although one that my mate mistakenly ordered was 'bacon flavoured'. Was really weird. Tasted like frazzles, or those fake little bacon bits you get at the pizza hut buffet.

Anyway, I'm into a few breweries

Luckily there are pubs all round me that have got these on the go, so I'm well sorted. Really likes Sussex brewery when I lived down in Brighton too

I'm brewing a ten gallon batch of esb next Sunday. Family recipe! Half will be bottled and half will go in a pin. :U:

post xmas beer review of some beers I'd never tried before :6:

St Peter's Whisky Beer
Image
was nice but I cracked it out at about 9am and it's Islay style peatiness was a bit too much (gave it to my irish lass who can stomach that sort of thing at anytime of day), was probably more suited to a late night fireside ting but was still pretty good. St Peter's IPA is still their best imo

Delerium Christmas
Image
Awesome 10%er, really nut-meggy, herby taste, no real boozey taste until you breath in afterwards. Absolutely canes you as well.

Ballard's Odd Couple
Image
This was weird, advertised as fruity but really quite bitter and verging on vinegar, bit like a British ale take on Duchesse de Bourgogne. Quite strong at 9% but comes in a tiny 275ml bottle. Definitely odd but really nice.

big drank

Been spending a few nights down at the polish club in bradford so drank quiet a lot of polish larger, nothing really amazing but I have developed a liking for the Mocne or Strong ones that are about 7%. When they are really cold they go down really nice - not so much when warmer. Okocim Mocne my pick, Warka Strong as runner up - get me wasted aswell.

Right, so over New Year's weekend I tried a new winter ale. Windmere Brothers "Brrr" from Portland, Oregon. It was pretty nice, full flavoured, a bit sweet with 7.2% abv. I am feeling these winter ales.
