simple ableton bouncing question

looked 2 pages back, didn't find the ableton q&a so here I go: I've been messing with a long louie armstrong break and chopped it into 8th notes in order to extract 1 shots. The idea being to edit the hits I like, bounce them to audio, and start building a 'jazzy' drumkit from said break. Problem is I don't know how to export the one shots, post fx, to audio. I think that's what bouncing means. I'm sure it's easy, I just can't figure it out.

To bounce to audio in Ableton I freeze the track, drag and drop to an audio track-it'll be a replica of what you had before (so all effects) so if you want it without the effects you can always disable them in the MIDI track before bouncing.

Did you know that if you make a midi clip duplicate it, freeze the track...wait for it...then make an audio track and just pick up and drop the midi clip on to that track it instantly flaterns it for you.. "

"Freezing leaves the MIDI and VSTs intact but ineditable, giving you that lovely performance boost. Once frozen you can flatten the whole track. Flattening converts the track to audio completely, you lose your MIDI and VST settings but end up with an 'editable .wav file'.

So you have your editable wav track in 4 clicks.
1. Right click track
2. Left click freeze
3. Right click track
4. Left click flatten

I like working with both audio and midi. I've known OPs trick for some time and I think it's rather brilliant because it lets me quickly create audio clips from my midi without destroying my midi track in the process.

Example: I create a nice loop in session view using MIDI driving some funky VSTs and FX. I want to now play with that loop as audio but do not want to lose my old MIDI version. I just freeze the track, CTRL-drag (duplicate) the clip to an audio track and tada, now I have an audio version of that clip. I can unfreeze my original midi track and continue messing with it or go chop up audio version in the audio track. "

Wait...why not just use the option that says "Slice to New MIDI Track"? That will give you one-shots much more easily...

THE EASIEST WAY.

warp the said break track, put a warp marker on every transient (drum hit).

right click slice to new midi track<select warp markers in the top window (this means it will make a new slice every warp marker<then the bottom window you can just select built in.

this will put all your chopped drum hits on their own pad in a drum rack, and you can also edit the wavefrom of each individual this way.

@Rando: You usually don't even have to go to the work of putting warp markers on each transient. Ableton will prompt you with a window after you select "Slice to New MIDI Track" that says, "Slice every ____". You can select transient there and it will do it for you. You may have to tweak a few of the hits after the fact.

Yeah true, bit I just do it for good practice. And you choose exactly what you want for one pad. Like maybe you want those 2 ui hats after the on snare. Instead of 3 pads for the part.
