Ableton live organization / library

Post by yamaz » Fri Dec 30, 2011 7:20 am

Hey guys, I recently had to reinstall my OS and basically going to set up my organization for ableton live a bit differently and was wondering if you guys have any tips or advice!

For instance, I can't decide whether I want to put most of my samples, presets, bass line riffs, one shots, songs, etc in my Ableton live library file or if I should put them all in a separate folder and barely use the library. I want to be able to copy like one folder to another computer and have my complete set up and samples ready to go.

Also wondering if you guys do anything structurally to store samples that you think is good or efficient. For instance I've been storing my bass files like this....

BASS
>Bass loops
>Loop1-140bpm-KEY F#
>Loop2-130bpm-KEY A
>Bass Samples
>Sample1-140bpm-KEY F#
>Sample2-130bpm-KEY A

DRUMS.....would be set up similar, except each sample or one-shot would be divided into 'kicks', 'snares', hi-hat's, etc...

Thx everyone ;-)

I have my sample folder set up like this

Atmosphere
Bass
Bounced Files
CMM Collection
DnB Breaks
Drum Hits
Drum Loops
Live Drum Loops
MIDI
Favourites
Other
Percussive Loops
Random
Remix Stems
FX
Synth Hits
Vocals

It takes a stupid amount of time to listen to every sample and put it in the correct place, but its well worth the hassle :W:
