There's loads of unreleased stuff from Mala that Joe Nice has aired. As for Coki, the man's a don at what he does and his testosterone, high energy beats have graced the dance for long now. I personally think he should sit back and not try so hard to differentiate himself as that other half of Digital Mystikz and make some more Mood Dub, All Of A Sudden, Officer material.

The recklessness of MDMA-fueled hipsters who are trending on 'dubstep' at the moment is also why I'm not expecting to see another night at Mass for a while. As for Loefah, the man's pioneered two music movements now and he's reaping the benefits so he'll only go forward.

It's obviously been said a million times but yes a lot of Coki's stuff could be considered rather bro these days... if that's what he likes then sod it. If I saw a mix posted up here or Twitter, I wouldn't be able to sleep until I had listened to the whole thing if it was done by Mala, I'm sure most people would agree.

Loefah & Pearson Sound are two of my favourite producers atm, I think their direction is really exciting tbh. I probably don't know as many names as most people on here but my dubstep producers of 2011 was Jack Sparrow & VIVEK so hopefully they will continue through their awesome level. I'm definitely feeling the 130bpmish sound though, maybe I'm moving there slightly from the deep, dungeon sound, but that doesn't mean I don't love that too.

Everyone needs a change/diversity from time to time :6:
Yeah mate dubstep's cool. Kinda prefer tech house these days. Gnome sayin'

This.

Fair play if you can listen to the same stuff 24/7 - 365. I know I cant. I come and go between sounds and like to listen and play lots of different stuff.

Honestly I think that the "dungeon" (still think it's a shit term) sound is the best thing around atm. I love the diversity and all that, but it gets old for me fast (of course there are exceptions - watch out for new GoldFFinch stuff).
And Coki's a don; waited for lucifer and tree trunk to get a proper release.

definitely just a term to generalise a sound, but shit still. The stuff coming out is supremely low and meaningful, been pushing it for a good while:

Someone recently told me a scene that rises up so quickly also falls down as fast. I think that's hit the nail on the head.

A lot of people on here have an issue with letting something evolve, don't get me wrong, i pine out for these old loefah and coki dubs too. I frequented on dubstepforum since it's inception but never felt the need to make an account coz i just felt like it wasn't necessary, I just came on here purely for information really. But anyway, off-subject, what i was trying to say is, I do miss the old vibes on here, everything now is hate on certain sub-genre's and artists etc...

People were always gonna get alienated by the original sound once it evolved into what it was initially trying to avoid (think jump up drum and bass or when oldskool rave fractured into happy hardcore), I think the complete breakdown of a scene is if anything healthy, because it means people are gonna rise up and create something completely different with influences from a broken scene that everyone loved. If you look at the 1992-1994 era oldskool breakbeat tunes, they lasted TWO years before bouncing off into jungle or hardcore, but then people fell in love with jungle, i'm sure people back then hated it when it first came about. The way i see it, UK underground music is a single constantly evolving enigma, personally I'm very excited to see what happens next! And as a producer, I have always missed out that cutting edge of a scene. I missed dubstep initially because i was about 12, I missed jungle, I missed garage. I hope to be at the edge of whatever happens next, get in on that excitement, that feeling of being part of something fresh.

As for DMZ, a collective of people that solid will never die, I am curious as to why there hasn't been an actual DMZ event for quite some time, but fair enough, they've smashed it hard for years now, they can have a break. And as for the release of Loefah, Coki, Mala etc... dubs. let's be honest, will they have the same magic when you hear them dropped on rinse.fm or at a show if we all have them? no way. I literally wet myself when I heard Oneman dropping Midnight.

I seriously hope Mala doesn't read this, IMO he dropped eyez vip as a gift/thanks to all the supporters of dmz and the vinyl scene. I hope all this playground bitching doesn't put him off releasing anymore gems, that i personally would LOVE to own on wax

And yeah, big up's to both Mala and Coki for Eyez VIP and Ruff Lovin/Lucifer!! It's things like that, that keep the scene going.

Exactly. I can't stand all these ungrateful stnuc on here. I gaurauntee if it had been livin' different vip or i wait pt 2 that'd got released, they'd turn around and say "should've been eyez vip imo...i neeeeeed that tune" :u: I doubt he even wanted to release eyez vip in the first place, just be grateful you have it and shut up. People keep going on about the 'magic' lost by releasing these dubplate 'classic's' acting like they still don't go mad when lean forward, ruffage, goat stare, anti-war dub, goblin etc are dropped

in regards to coki, look its not his fault 3 quarters of the scene bit his style and ran with it. He has gone overboard at points (see 'on board' and 'nandos') but he still has marduk's, mapper's and herbsmen's in him. And btw the boomba/carbon aliens tempa release was one of the best releases of the year so all is not lost with him. Oh and lastly, i think the mastering on the tracks on the don't get it twisted ep were done incorrectly because if you was at corsica when mala played 'think you're gone' you wouldn't be saying it has no bassweight......trust me.

Mala is Mala, that breh is a wizard who can't be explained...nuff said. I'm hoping he does a mix somewhere that showcases the 20 or so dubs that tunnidge described as being some of his best work to date. Harvest, Tombstone and Tiger Dance are brilliant tracks.Whatever the future holds, i'm pretty sure Mala will always have a lane open to peoples ears because of how consistently reliable he is. Seriously ask yourself this question, when was the last time you heard a Mala track and thought to yourself either "ahh this is terrible" or "i'm not feeling this, don't like it at all"?

Loefah, i'm glad he's enjoying the music he's supporting but it's just got to the point i'd just like to hear where he's at musically, regardless of what bpm its at. Yeah everyone wants dmzlp003 but i've personally given up on a loefah dmz release, regardless of that coki post alluding to the possibility of a future release.

Lastly, I think this year is a hugely important one for the future of DMZ, with all the new sounds starting to form an identity of their own which in turn is drawing the crowds away from dubstep, what dmz does this year imo will determine their longevity in the forefront. And i wish people would stop with all this "tunes should stay a dubplate" bollocks. Yeah, i appreciate the dubplate culture as much as the next man but there's a point when dubplates don't even get played anymore. When the last time you heard tracks like conference pt 2, big sut unt, dub grub, stand against war, crystal lake, gotham, new blood, hurricane kick, 10 dread commandments vip, boiler suit, natural charge, drive bi, dmz vs mzn etc played out live? I'd rather they came out than were forgotten completely. And they do become forgotten after time because usually people have to go out their way to keep their memories of them alive (posting youtube videos, linking mix shows etc)

/rant

all i want is more dances and more mala/loefah releases this year

Dubstep was the one, when it wasn't an internet thing, there was something intangible about it. Something fucking special.
Musics sick now but its lost something that 'pre-youtube dubstep' had, like a deep energy that everyone involved shared, especially at the DMZ dances, those were special. Dubstep used to be about Transition Dubs, now it seems to be about Radio rips on youtube, its not the same to me.
Probably sounds bait but DMZ had a profound impact on my life. I went to my first DMZ on my eighteenth birthday, ill never forget that.
From my experiences those dances were by far the best way to experience dubstep, and without them i find it hard to follow.
Things dont last for ever, and so they shouldn't.

Big up the Mystikz everytime, Nothing but respect for them

As a genre of music is getting more popular, listeners want to say that "I know dubstep music" & they start categorizing by stupid principles & end up messing it all up. But for our sakes the producers are doing what they want, & not what the public wants. That is what makes it special & original.
It's just music & by it's nature is subjective. The DMZ crew is teaching us a lesson or two about how things push forward in different directions, but they stay together (at least on labels & shows) & I am sure they have a great time.
So, these discussions will lead nowhere & more people should stop dividing & branding so that they don't get lost in the hate/hype machine & keep it pure, simple and real.
This kind of music is about the feeling and not the name.
listen with your subconscious
