Yes it does, and that's why I don't judge anyone for downloading as long as they buy what they can afford to support the artists they love.bass_culture wrote:With the amount of free legal content on the net (radio shows/mixes/free tunes) I don't think there's one solid argument which can justify piracy.

What settings should be used for higher than 256?Maccaveli wrote:Yeah I was gonna say, are you sure you don't just have your iTunes ripping settings on 256kbps?Naan Bread wrote:CD is always lossless.dididub wrote:If I buy a cd with the aim of playing some of the tunes on it out, and it comes in 256 kbps, I will probably pirate a 320 copy.
I haven't flat out pirated something I didn't own for a few years now.

Re: Illegally Downloading Music
Yeah, I do. Like, a lot. But concerning dubstep I find it quite hard download illegally as it's not really that mainstream so there's not enough seeds or whatever. Mainly the dubstep in my iTunes are fabriclive CDs, mixes, and this fat off CD of like 3gb worth of music my friend made me. Also, I try to go to as many shows as I can so I still support the producer/label.
Also, I don't DJ and getting into vinyl is something I really can't afford, sounds fucking expensive.

Re: Illegally Downloading Music
Isn't that an argument for piracy? Almost everyone posting here has done a mix and uploaded it at some point, or played a radio show or DJ set- that is all piracy unless you got authorisation for each tune. Someone hearing a tune through a free (usually unauthorised) source and therefore not buying the tune or not pirating the tune directly is better for the artist in what way?

Re: Illegally Downloading Music
didn't read the thread. all i know is when i have loads of quality tunes people can download them for free.
as long as a couple of them come watch me play live then it doesn't bother me.

not gonna lie, i have downloaded illegally sometimes. it's just too much of a temptation
on the other hand, i've bought the physical release if i've liked it.

Nice one, and damn! I just assumed iTunes would import at 320, now I've got a huge library of 256Laszlo wrote:Edit > Preferences > Import Settings > (Setting) Custom > (Stereo Bit Rate) 320say_whut wrote: What settings should be used for higher than 256?

Re: Illegally Downloading Music
This is somewhat of a grey area I will grant you that. However I think there is a fundamental difference between hearing tunes in the context of a mix as opposed to downloading them in full for free, and thus having the ability to use them in the same capacity as someone who has paid for that same music.Mr Hyde wrote:Isn't that an argument for piracy? Re: Illegally Downloading Music
How about playing them out in a dj set? Even if the dj themself isn't getting paid, the venue and promoter are likely to be making money from door fees and drinks etc, essentially off the back of stolen music.wearecorsairs wrote:but what capacity can they use them in? they sure as hell can't use them commercially. its if a company does something like that where i go apeshit.

Re: Illegally Downloading Music
i'd rather have some people hearing my tune that might not have (if the DJ couldn't download it for free) than not have them hear it at all.bass_culture wrote:How about playing them out in a dj set? i didn't make the music to make any money, i made the music because it was fun doing it.
also i listen to shit on youtube for free all the time so that would make me a massive hypocrite.
