Ableton Live 8 CPU Overload/ASIO Problem

Post by Paradox_2012 » Fri Dec 30, 2011 7:23 pm

OK well this problem has been long running and has no signs of giving up... i need to fix this as soon as possible so plz help if you can!

My ableton (for the longest) has been messing with me with this overload on the CPU at the top right by reading a percentage of 110% when using one 1 audio cilp and 3 VSTs at the same time.
For some reason i dont no why this happens so i ask you guys to let me know what you guys think...

Also I do use the ASIO drives but i cant switch the setting to work with my other internal soundcard, so this forces me to use the Monitor when using ASIO drivers (which helps alot with the CPU) and for this reason i cant use my XD-53 Headphones when i need it, cuz really... i cant hear bass with a Monitor

i got my system specs right here:
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor 3.30 GHz
8.00 GB of Memory
Windows 7 Home Premium OS (64-Bit)

If you need any info, just ask!
OK guys lets stop the hate and take one quick note to self....

Mine does this too, what kind of motherboard and graphics card do you have? I have gigabyte mobo and nvidia geforce GTS 250 graphics card.

do you find that it gets worse when you scroll or there is a lot going on visually?

Yesterday i looked inside my computer case and cleaned out about a pound of dust that was caked all in the CPU heatsink/fan and the graphics card fan...

Made a HUGE difference, i'm actually amazed at how much better it is performing. I was even able to unlock the 2 extra cores on my CPU, it's like i got a free upgrade!

other then that i really dont know what the problem can be cuz this also happened to the old pc but something is odd with my new PC. the other day i tried to run Minecraft and i was lagging alot more then my older shitty computer, is it possible that my CPU is busted?

Make sure that Ableton Live is running in backwards compatibility mode, otherwise the CPU it uses up is freakin' incredible - I don't understand why. I had this issue initially, but it was even worse than yours.

It's part of your windows settings. I think you right-click the icon and then go properties - somewhere in there is the option to run under windows compatibility mode. As for my story - CPU would jump to about 200%, all the faders and everything would jump around (instead of being smooth transitions). Really odd. A little google-fu helped me in that situation *hint hint nudge nudge* :P
