Steps to downloading:

Download Torrent file.
Listen to album.
Pick songs I like.
Buy them on iTunes.
Delete torrent album.

If they're not on iTunes... fuck it - I tried. Make your music more accessible
and I'll give you my 79/99p. (or 59p if its on sale.)

That's really destroying the art of an album though. Something that seems to be happening a lot anyway. I always listen to an album start to finish. Rarely I'll buy a single track but that usually happens with like a pop record or something.

Same here, even if an album has like 50% songs I don't like I'll still keep the whole thing on my iPod cos I think its important to hear songs in the context of the album they're on

The destruction of the album artistically isn't something you can really wrest on the listeners, IMO. Not to say there aren't absolute gems of releases front to back, but they are few and far between, especially when you consider how everyone has such different tastes.

Depends on the genre really. With dubstep I don't usually bother, assuming I've at least heard the music in question in good quality on a radio show etc. I go straight to buy said music digitally/CD. If I haven't heard something (becoming less and less frequent with spotify/grooveshark improving), especially if a full album, then I'll d/l it free first. If I like it I'll track it down to buy. If not I won't. Music gets deleted shortly after either way. This is especially true in rock where I'll hear about something being good rather than hear it itself so I want to check it out. The only time I will keep the free d/l is if I can't find the music digitally or on CD (I'm not counting ridiculously priced second hand selling where nothing goes to the artist). I also don't pay for centuries old classical music.

oh wow... yeah of course If I like an album I'll buy the whole thing.
My bad. I didn't really get that across.

I'm not a philistine! :a:

Yes, I admit that I have downloaded some of my music illegally. But seeing that I spend 80 to 90 % of my money on vinyl every month, I think I have the right to do so. (well not exactly of course)
I mean, I already spend the vast majority of my hard earned money on music every month, what more can I do?
I rarely pay for digital downloads though, don't know what it is exactly but it's something that I find quite ridiculous really. I'd much rather spend my money on vinyl, even if that means I can buy less releases for the same amount of cash.

Honestly I have a few vinyl, but hey I bought CDJs?

Vinyl decks = cheaper in the short-run
CDJ = cheaper in the long-run

why? because people dload all the 320s! I use CDJs but definitely agree things should ONLY be released vinyl only. Fuck digital!

downloads should be standard with all vinyl purchases anyway

This. So much.

And often times I'll pirate something and then buy it on either wax or cd. If I really love what I'm listening to, I'll be sure the artist gets something.

Well hell, theres no sense in me spending 12 bucks on something I might not like. If I like it, I'll buy it. If I'm not going to listen to it anyway, I'm not going to go out and purchase it.

I shall bag it when the time comes. :W:

You're right about previews but... I just cannot afford buying all the music I want to listen to. I buy as much music as I can, so I don't have a problem with downloading a few albums occasionally. And I like to think that it helps weed out the people who are only in it for the money. Capitalism has kinda fucked the music industry, as it has every industry. But that's another discussion. :/
