saw skrillex on new year's eve. it was my second time. the first, at electric forest (formerly known as rothbury) was this summer and it was absolute garbage. he was too fucked up, fucked up way too many times, and immediately followed a true artist in bassnectar which made him look even worse, and i was completely turned off.

after talking to some people who had seen him since and said he'd been getting better I decided to go because it was either him or rusko for the night.
just wanna say, he fucking blew my mind. absolutely killed it. i had one of the best times. & contrary to popular belief, there actually was sub bass lol.
it made me really appreciate the sounds he can make, even if they're not to everyone's taste. he had me going what the fuck a lot (in a good way)

basically, i enjoyed his show. it was fun. and most of all, i danced. after all, isn't that the point of edm?

BOO THIS MAN! don't you realize it's unlawful to enjoy skrillex here? Anything about 80 hz is barred! Crucify him!

I saw him a while back when he first blew up. I was incredibly dissapointed. And since then, while I have a lot of respect for him, I honestly can't get into his tunes anymore, they all pretty much sound the same to me now. To each their own though.

erm yea kinda but not necessarily and certainly not always. sometimes you just wanna meditate on bassweight yaget?

if to you the point of electronic music is just to make people dance you are limiting yourself to one dimension, but yea to me skrillex's sound kinda lends itself to this one-dimensionality so to speak. music to get fucked up and dance to, period.

for me music is truly satisfying if it can suit more than one occasion. like i can sit in my room, listen, ponder my yeaterdays todays and tomorrows OR i can hear when im out and still skank out like madman OR i can just throw it on in the background while i smoke a spliff with friends just shooting the shit etcetc theres no way i could do all these things to nice sprites and monsters or wtever

obviously to each his own blablabla, this is just my opinion.

haha i know i know shoot me.

but i went through the same thing. I remember the time right before he blew up and people still played scary monsters at underground events and it was cool. then i kind of distanced myself from his stuff for awhile as every teeny bopper got into him, and i thought it all sounded the same. saw him at ef just because i was already there and i was disappointed. and like i said I pretty much gave him a second chance and I was very impressed.

yeah i totally feel ya. and don't get me wrong i'm not all OMG SKRILLEX or anything. and it's certainly not my only taste, and i don't even listen to him on my own time (or anything similar now that i think about it) but i knew the songs, it was new years and i was in get fucked up and dance mode, and that's what i got out of it.

and to touch on the one dimensional thing, yeah if you look at it broadly it is all pretty much the same shit but live i could really got a sense of diversity from a lot of his new stuff. might not all have been his, i dont know, but there was the really heavy loud cinema/scary monsters esque songs and then some almost 4x4 shit and a lot of moombahton that was a totally different vibe.

not really defending him or trying to be that guy, but just kinda wanted to throw that little story out there since i've been on both sides of the fence wit him and right now i'm a fan.

I didn't distance myself because of that. It's the same reason why I don't really get into a lot of the new rusko and circus records and excision stuff. It just got old to me. If I'm going to listen to aggro dubstep nowadays, it's usually the more neurofunkish dnb influenced stuff like koan sound, noisia, phace, and feed me. There's just something about the sound design behind their reeses that just never ceases to amaze me. Their stuff is really melodic but at the same time right in your face. It's about making big basslines for them, but not so much finding the "filthiest" sound. Their stuff just tends to move me more I suppose.

NAR MATE! simple misunderstanding haha, check what i bolded. wasnt even directed at you

if teeny boppers listening to the music you like makes you dislike that music you are in it for the wrong reasons. fair enough if it gets stale but other people should have nothing to do with it.

I think other people come into play when it's so popular it's all you hear, anywhere. too much of a good thing. every party. every car ride. yeah there's some things that will never get old but his music is not one of them. it's best in moderation imo
