So no specific sound, but can someone point me in the direction of a good comprehensive all around massive information video or article?

does anyone have any tips on how to go about doing this or can point me in the right direction? thanks in advance.
basically all they do is loop the sample faster and faster until it creates the note they want, the faster the loop the higher pitch the note , they did a masterclass which you can find on youtube but they say it took a longggggg time to get it to that stage

ok. thanks for the response! I will experiment.
Look up some videos about granular synthesis. It's somewhat relevant, and really cool.

Oh and, that bassline probably is not made from that shitty kick, you can actually hear it fade out and just hear a distorted saw wave going up in pitch while fading in. Sounds great though ;)
haha will do. thank you!

Whenever I am eq'ing a kick to try to get it to sound like this (not clicky), it sounds dull.
I usually scoop out the mids, from like 300 hz, to 2-3k hz. I then layer it with an eq'd 808.
What do you guys think?

Sounds like a Vengeance kick drum to me. Double up your sample, pitch the second one down a couple of semitones (UYE to fine tune it), then a slight bit of EQing to take the any out of place top end frequencies off of it, not so much you dull the sound just enough to give it that warm feel.

You could also try layering it with a slightly pitched up 808 sample over the top of it, with some creative EQing to remove both the top and bottom end of that frequency to leave just the mids for some added feel.

Once you've processed all 3 kick samples, run them into a bus with a tiny bit of compression (UYE to get it right), then bounce it out and hey presto...wunderkick!

sure man
open massive
set oscillator 1's wavetable to Sine-Square
turn the position knob all the way left
play it low octaves
that is the bass in both of those songs

they are also both playing a high lead instrument over the top of the bass

thank you for the informational post.
I got pretty close by just layering two samples, a vengeance kick and a 808.
I EQ'd the vengeance sample so just the frequencies between 2000-3500hz are heard.
sounds heavy and warm.
I will try this technique though.

its basically just a short intro and a loop.

I have OCD when it comes to producing. everything must be perfect before I move on to the next segment...

Yeah, for now. I just like hearing others opinions since my set up isn't exactly ideal.
I enjoy criticism.

needs a bit more of an initial hit at the beginning. try playing with the attack or possibly layering it with a very subtle punch at the beginning.

edit: actually I'm not sure if its that i listened again and it does have a small initial punch but overall the drum is just not near as punchy as deadmau5. i couldn't do any better either, just saying. id say move on with the track and come back to it and try and dial it in and get it more punchy.

I have two sounds based on the exact same waveforms:
two oscillators--
  • a square sawtooth wave
    a polysawtooth wave
The clip I want to emulate is produced in massive using an LFO-controlled bandpass filter.
Soundcloud

Here is a clip of the results I get when I apply an LFO-controlled biquad bandpass filter to the same waveforms (taken from a wavetable) in Pure Data:

Soundcloud

The second clip also has some adsr volume control for note-ons and note-offs, as you can tell by glancing at the recordings.

Does anyone have any tips on what sound processing techniques I can use to get my sound closer to the output from massive?
There is some slight vibrato that is absent from my pre-filtered sound, but I wouldn't think that would account for the huge difference between the two sound clips. The clip from massive has no effect filter enabled- just the bandpass filter.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

Hi there,
how do you manage to get such a flexible automation of bass, like the ones in these songs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omKH4QNvXlU (0:45 - 0:49)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9o2LHSO6IA (0:58 - 1:00)
It seems to me that it's a reese bass with some formant filter + time stretching,and/or pitch bending.....I've been trying to get that sound in ableton + vsts like massive, zebra 2, sylenth, i also used some pitch bending plugins. I didn't try mapping any params to a midi controller though.
Do you guys have any suggestions, or could you recommend any decent plugins which would be useful in creating that sound?

Thanks
