			Yo
Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times but I'm getting a bit fed up of massive. It feels quite plastic and it lacks... well.. depth I guess I would say. It just feels too tacky.
Any ideas on a synth that compliments the type of stuff I want to start producing? (I.e Joy O, Boddika, Mosca sounds etc)
Ta very much like.

the old yamaha fm synths and modules can be found fairly cheap. I got a dx27 for 150. very good for weird thick bass or bellish tones.

Massive lacks depth? FEELS too plasticky? I think you just don't know how to use it well. How much time did you spend with it, 2 months? Wait a year. If you paid for it I can't believe you'd be so quickly disenchanted with it.
Still, if you really must branch out, check out Absynth. Best synth for dubstep wobbles.
After checking out the artists you mentioned, sounds like you'd appreciate Sylenth.

im not saying it is easy to make music like boddika, joy o etc. but their sounds are usually based on the simple waveforms, like squares, saws and sines. every synth can make sounds similar to that. what DAW do you use? and what you mean by depth? massive can do depth, its a very versatile synth. normally to give sounds more depth, its the processing afterwards, not the actual synth sounds.

actually i agree massive does sound plasticy/glassy almost its weird, cheap, etc. but manny will tell you this too, its mostly to do with the filters, they're rather crap. manny says a lot of times he just by passes the filters and uses another external filter.
massive is a great synth for electronic music but id say it has too much of digital sound for more realistic stuff.

Well, it crashes FL quite frequently and also, when I am playing 2 or 3 synths over the top of one another it crackles like crazy.
Cheers for the suggestions aswell.

That's probably not the fault of the synth but of your interface processor (if you have one) or your cpu processing power. I have a cheap interface w/ my macbookpro and i can run 16+ instances of massive all active and not have any crackling. My old computer would have been spazzing out trying to run that.

cracked copies of massive tend to crash FL frequently...there is a fix, but I don't remember it. Besides, I don't use massive.

It crashes FL studio because you pirated massive (more than likely) and it crackles like hell because you have 2-3 synths going at once, which really is really cpu intense. Have one synth going and when you're satisfied with the sound, export the patch as a wav and then drag it back into FL, then add effects. If I didn't bounce my stuff out and then back in there's not a chance in hell my desktop would be able to take all that. I've gotten to the point where I have to make separate projects for the same tune. But as far as other synths go, I would agree that massive has a certain timbre to it, but my guess is you're only breaching the surface of what it can do. But if you do have to find another synth, I would recommend NI's FM8. It's a bitch to get the hang of (I'm 6 months deep and still only grasp about 10% of it) but you can get some serious sounds from it if you have the time to devote to learning it. One last thing: not to sound like an asshole, but read the massive manual if you haven't already; it'll do wonders for your understanding of the synth and how to use it. Also look into reading simon cain's "how to make a noise". It's free in PDF form and is an invaluble source of knowledge in the world of synthesis. It covers everything from the most standard wave forms, to additive and FM synthesis.

Gladiator VST is hella complicated/the most options I've ever seen on a synthesizer. I'd check it out if I were you.

+1 for Zebra. If had to keep just one synth, Zebra would be the one.

Innit; its such a nice synth; the waveforms and filters are brilliant. I love how theres filters and the filter control too! Its so nice for automation and envs.

yeah bro its a fucking nifty little synth. and the developers are awesome dudes. i've been casually talking to them about future updates and what not. this is a part of what he sent me. looks promising for future zebra users!!

However, thing is that pretty much all complex synths that added sample support then just, hmmm, "died". Sound designers then use samples rather than synthesis, and sounds become more stale and less virtuous/animated. For that reason I'm reluctant to go that route.
Still, there are things that can be done in other ways... we're discussing a "transient generator" as an option to create natural sounding attacks. Stuff like that.
looks like were going to see some more options in the wavetable area as well as better percussive sounds. sounds like it will give fm synthesis a run for its money for percussion.
