Who Still Buys Vinyl?

let's not ruin this thread with a digi vs vinyl vs tape vs wax cylinder debate.

I def still buy vinyl. I agree with most of the reasons given here. another thing is that an analog format like vinyl-pressings are inconvenient. inconvenient to store, play, clean, etc. but this is a really positive thing for me. you have to be super deliberate with vinyl. can't just go pop on a record and forget about it, ya gotta keep your ear on it and head in the music. playing vinyl keeps you away from the world of "shuffling playlists".

oh yeah, and buying 2nd-hand vinyl on discogs? its like christmas on command

i have nothing to play vinyl on so i don't. i love the feel and look of it though so i've considered getting a player so that there is a point to me getting them. but i can't justify the outlay to my bank account right now

i'd quite like something physical to connote my music collection, but i don't even have a CD drive on my netbook, so it's all downloads, all the time. bit saddening. but saves space innit.

I was in this situation but then I finally realized....look, you can get a decent vinyl player that will just play records for a very cheap price off of ebay or something, brand new. The one I have even has a bass boost feature.

After that, I've hooked up an old pair of big speakers to it, sounds great. Play my records all the time.

oh i also buy cd's too but this is mainly to play in my car for driving so on a different vibe. rinse:17 must have had about 30/40 plays since i bought it, im all about the physical product whatever that may be, the only downloads i really get any more are the ones that are given out for free by producers/blogs etc

Love vinyl! Takes away half of my wages but so worth it! Always debate switching but you cant beat vinyl on a good rig! I swear there is an overemphasis on how bad club turntables are! i have only had one or two gigs where it has been unplayable especially since i started bringing my own needles. anyway Vinyl FTW!

I only really buy stuff on wax if its vinyl only such as eyez vip. It burnt too much of a hole in my pocket and it cant take it anymore

only buy vinyl, have bought a few MP3s over the years but if its not on wax i generally dont play it. Got a CD deck now so this might change but as long as a track i want can be bought on vinyl, i'll buy it. Will only play unreleased or exclusive stuff on CD

Even though I've been using Serato for the past few years, there is no way that I could ever sell my record collection.

Anyways, wanted to see what the reaction was like as there's a possibility that there will be a vinyl release on Triangulum towards the end of the year.

Bringing your own needles is the difference between heaven and hell when you're not using your own decks. In emergencies, I have found that if I unscrew the needle, lick my finger and put the moisture of my finger onto the part of the electrical end of the needle and screw it back in, that the needle will usually work. Although I understand doing this over the longterm can be detrimental.

haha yeah I hear that. I owe my missus 300 and last week I think I had four packages turn up, constant source of stress/ annoyance to her. I'v started getting stuff sent to my work address and smuggling it home

haha yeah man good tip but yeah it does wear the contact out quicker in the long run. With a technics there are loads of little quick fixes to keep a party going but wtf do you do if a cdj fucks up short of having a couple spare?!

If a CDJ fucks up, you are kinda screwed if there isn't a spare one on hand.

However, the benefit of using Serato in that scenario is to stick that channel on internal mode/use the "instant doubles" feature.

Jumpy needles are a bitch though!
