It wouldn't work for one.

Secondly if I stop buying music and dvds all I'm harming small artists, labels and dvd reissue companies that I wan't to genuinely support, not showing the big companies I won't stand for censorship in the name of copyright.

Depends with the music, a lot of artists on majors don't make much at all, if anything, from sales anyway depending on contracts and after they pay everyone else for studio work and cover all legal fees and the cash advances made. It varies by contracts of course. That's not really small/independent labels and artists though, the boycott was obviously aimed at major labels. A lot of normal artists on majors these days are breaking even in the studios and relying on tours/merch, or going into debt with the company keeping most profits.

I agree it's dumb too though, but mostly because it would take many millions of people to make it work, and most people don't care about this stuff to begin with.

no matter what there's always gonna be that cybersnob from berlin who uses linux and finds the loophole.
I fear not of SOPA, I fear hackers throwing in the digital terror towel.

oooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo BLACKOUT!

that'll show em'

depriving the pleasure of wikipedia for 24 hours isn't gonna generate the social uprising needed to stop sopa before it ever starts, but with the freedom of information act, there's no stopping it, they've already arrested megaupload.com. And the filesharing site I use just went off line :crybaby: :corncry:

I don't think this would be an example of doing it properly. It's likely to hurt retail outlets more than it would the labels/studios/publishers. Retail outlets in general are hurting enough as it is. All this would do really is hasten the demise of retail outlets.

Always found her attractive, and wondered if I was the only one? She is fit, in a kind of goofy way imo.

This is the cold, hard truth of most people living in a democracy today. It drives me to despair when I think about the sacrifices our forefathers made so that we have a say in the matters that affect our lives, but your average Joe is just 'meh'.

Anon Calls for a 'Black-March' - Media blackout

Post by d-T-r » Fri Jan 20, 2012 6:19 pm

Surprised this hasnt reached the snh yet.

This isnt just about media either. It's about information and its naturally flowing path.Technology is a natural extension of Nature. The same rules of data, order and sensory input apply.

Don't accept the status quo conciously or sub-consciously. 'Choose' to Evolve. Not just for yourself, but for everyone on this planet, so we can actually enjoy the Circus-like-fun-fair that this earth should aspire to be.

A one month media black out should at least make it clear to those who are skeptical, that we can indeed influence Economical decisions for the benefit of the entire world, not just the wealthy.

I might be getting ahead of myself but ,we shouldn't just stop with a media black out either. if we prepare enough before hand, we can supply ourself with everything we need to 'survive' for march . If you're gonna attempt to 'cripple' or at least 'injure' an industry, you might as well do it properly and aim to make the dent as big as possible. Industries that serve the people are of course excused. It's Up to us to figure out what it actually is that 'serves' us well , and what things don't.

It's not about pointless disruption, it's about seeking solution, and mehtods in which to make them applicable.

^x2 ( Laszlo post)

to the people that hold the 'it will never work' mentality, do you ever consider the fact that it's this mentality that got us in the state we're in now.

Don't just accept the status quo cos you think it can't be altered.

Your thoughts define your actions. If you think it wont work, then your just contributing to it 'not working'

It can work, if we all get on board....It's not about getting fucked over, and then not trying to fix a situation cos 'it'll never work'

Skepticism is healthy but fuck, At least consider the benefit of at least trying to Empower yourselves.

Stop asserting your own lack of influence in the world and see what effect it actually has.

I love how everyone assumes the blackouts were about showing congress whatfor, when actually they were more about exposing people to the situation who would otherwise not know/care through mediums the average person uses daily.

of course congress dont give a fuck about wiki closing for a day, but they might care that thanks to the closure an extra couple of million people globally now know about whats going on.

Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA, said on Friday that he is pulling the bill “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”
