Sampling audio from computer
Hi All
So when i was on a PC all i had to do was open audacity and press the record button and i could sample say a youtube video or something and it'd be all fine and dandy. But when i tried doing this when i got a Mac, such is not the case and i can't seem to figure it out i.e., it does not record the audio playing, but instead the sound of when i click my mouse. Is there simple way of fixing this? I'm aware that there are programs like wiretap that'll do this but my trial of it just ran out and I'm not gonna spend money on a liscence for a program if i can do it free in audacity.
Thanks!

Audacity should have a drop down menu to select the recording input. Change it to Stereo Mix.
Re: Sampling audio from computer
all it said was either (1)mono or (2)stereowub wrote:ehbrums1 wrote:I have the recording device set to built in input if thats what you mean

Re: Sampling audio from computer

Drop down menu where it says 'Line In'. Switch to Stereo Mix.
Re: Sampling audio from computer
Theres no line in menu Wub and the ones that are there theres no stereo mix option.
I downloaded sound flower but I'm eternally confused on how its supposed to work if my audio source is coming from safari...

@ehbrums1
Let me guess, you have audacity 1.3?
Audacity did a HUGE upgrade when they went to 1.3 and they changed a lot of options and the gui visuals as well.
@wub
Hey buddy
This is what his looks like I'm guessing:

I'm not sure how to do what you want for 1.3, but 1.2 is still available for download which makes it very easy to do what you want.
THE main reason for all this nonsense is because the audacity site says that the 1.2(.6) version DOES NOT SUPPORT windows 7 etc. blah blah blah so they want everyone to use the 1.3 BETA which is garbage in my opinion.
Pretty sure you can still get 1.2 to work with some compatibility mode magic or something. Good luck.

Re: Sampling audio from computer
Alright man cool. I did find out how to do it on 1.3. It's real easy but took a long time to find what I was looking for. If you end up using windows again or if anyone else would like to know how to do it just hit me up.
Re: Sampling audio from computer
You said you have soundflower yea? Go into your audio settings and change your output to shoundflower (ch2). Then in audacity change Playback to whatever you're using (built in, soundcard etc.) and recording devices to soundflower (ch2) and 2 (stereo) for channels. You won't be able to hear sound coming out of your speakers until you hit record, when you're done change your audio settings output back to normal and that'll be the only thing you've got to change whenever you want to record. That might be a shitty description but lemme know, I just got soundflower and stuff last week so I feel your frustration

Re: Sampling audio from computer
Audio hijack. You attach it to whatever app you want then record away. Demo version is fine for. Up to 10 minutes of recording or something. Works a treat
Re: Sampling audio from computer
Yeah I had to restart audacity to make it work that was the problemHuts wrote:You said you have soundflower yea? Go into your audio settings and change your output to shoundflower (ch2). how in the world did you get automation points set up like that?! I didn't even know audacity was capable of such things.wub wrote:
