dark chord synth design
ive been trying to get close to this sound for a while and i just cant seem to get close to the depth and wideness of the sound. i have been messing about with the using bandpass/bandreject filters and lots of reverb/delay but it just doesnt get nearly as deep
in this song the chord-synth comes in at 0:30 seconds.

Re: dark chord synth design
stoked when I saw this thread
I actually broke down how I made that chord stab in another thread a wee while back, I've copy/pasted it below... if you need more info I'd be happy to go into more detail.
"I made them out of a pad sound that I made for a previous tune. I think it was a simple PWM pad that I made with Logic's ES2, layered with a bandpass sweep pad preset from Blue and loads of pitched-down timestretched vinyl crackle atmos/ambience that started life as an Apple Loop.
Layered about 3-4 different variations of the pad sounds and ambiences, then bounced out a minor chord - about 8 bars of sustained chord, with all the layers in. Whacked that in a sampler, then did the final filter modulation using Fabfilter Volcano - it's an LFO or envelope modulating the cutoff that gives it the 'stabby' feel."
big ups and good luck!
and lol @ Boot and Sook, shhhhh thems supposed to be secretssttsts

Re: dark chord synth design
You have been deceived. Its actually a bunch of bannana leaves hand picked from Byron bay being towed behind a ford courier ute through paddock of sunflowers while in neutral with the engine turned off down a steep hill with 5 british backpackers we hired for a slab of VB singing 4 part harmonies in the tray. I know cause I was there when we recorded it. We had stereo mics strapped to the back of the ute and it was going down at 88 into my MBOX 2 PRO with Pro Tools. We then reversed it in post, stuck it though 2 mesa boogie amps in stereo mic'd up in a 30x40 meter warehouse in Marrickville called Dirty Shirlows. Good luck replicating it.sook wrote:he uses the dark chord synth VST...

Re: dark chord synth design
Please tell me someone else hears the vocoder effect.
Re: dark chord synth design
You mean on the attack on the sound?i hear a bit of vocoder too but you can achieve that sound by an other way i think...
Re: dark chord synth design
No I swear it sounds like it's being processed through a vocoder, like how you can use vocoders as EQs.
Re: dark chord synth design
yep it reminds a bit of the sound when you put the ableton vocoder and adjust the formant settings...is it what you are talking about?
Re: dark chord synth design
I can promise you it has not been processed through a vocoder. In the post above, I explained how I made it. No vocoderjoshisrad wrote:No I swear it sounds like it's being processed through a vocoder, like how you can use vocoders as EQs.
