Re: SOPA & the battle for the Internet
looool this is how constitutionally the USA are. go to www.megaupload.com and read. so it's nothing new that this page is downtaken. what about: THE USA IS NO WORLDPOLICE?!!?!! what about: First accuse and then arrest and condemn? there are a fiew fundamental and human rights they break.
if the americans want to have theyr copyright stuff in the internet as the record and movie industrie wishes, than they can do this by a censoration in theyr own country. but not to do it worldwide, and arrest people where ever they are.

Re: SOPA & the battle for the Internet
I'm worried about Mediafire disappearing. Their links don't seem to die like most of the others.

if you need your music fix, from an indie, go for it.d-T-r wrote:which is why we should aim to make it about more than just the media.
Needs to be about mass consumption. The only way people will notice what us 'peasants' are doing is when their profit margins start declining.
We DO feed them their profit. It wont be simple, but there are ways to massively cut unnecessary consumption to alert them to the fact, we have more control than they currently see us as having.
I hope it still builds momentum and Anonymous takes this same initiative. Lets not miss out on an opportunity like this just Cos Sopa are putting up the 'BRB' flag.
It's the big companies and corporations we need to target. Of course the masses arent all gonna get on board.Which is why its about spreadin the message to people who wouldnt normally come across this sort of thing or see any real benefit of doing it.
Again, This can be about MUCH MORE than the media.
The media has just revealed it's self to be the Achilles heel. It's a starting point for things to come.
This is about shedding light on Nessecity. If we cut out as much of our 'pointless' consumption as we can, and only consume that of which is vital to our survival,well-being and happiness, then the industries are gonna have a hard time dealing with their 'losses' from the lack of demand which directly Feeds their profits and investments.
This is about Supply and demand.Supply and demand of resources aswell as unfiltered information.
Demand an equal supply of resources for the world. Demand resources are not wasted. Demand we all reconsider our own consumption of resources.
And yes it can be done.
To the people that hold the 'it will never work' mentality, do you ever consider the fact that it's this mentality that got us in the state we're in now.
Don't just accept the status quo cos you think it can't be altered.
Your thoughts define your actions. If you think it wont work, then you're just contributing to it 'not working'
It can work, if we all get on board....It's not about getting fucked over, and then not trying to fix a situation cos 'it'll never work'
Skepticism is healthy but fuck, At least consider the benefit of at least trying to Empower yourselves.
Stop asserting your own lack of influence in the world and see what effect it actually has.
We are ALL responsible for the state of this world and WE are ALL responsible for seeking Applicable solutions.
Lets all focus on not being so passive about the direction our civilization as well as our evolution can head in.
The world DOES have an abundance of natural and technological resources to ensure the human-rights and needs of every human are met. The lack of distribution is the problem. The methods of distribution won't be a problem, it's just actually getting people to realize by helping others, we will ultimately be helping our selves.
This isnt idealism, this isn't anarchy, this isn't whatever Dualistic label you want to apply to it.
This is about US , not you, not me but all of Us.
During times of [planetary] deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. George Orwell
No longer is there room for subjective truth. The truth should be objectified in order for us to truly understand what it indicates for us in the here and now

It's all about the balance. Romantically changing the world through various outlets including, but not limited to the; spreading of discontent for the ultimate purpose of increasing a sense of collective content . ∞ chaos before order. order before chaos ∞The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who Is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. As if fucking hollywood and shit doesn't have enough money, the greedy fucks. Most smaller artists who actually need the money make the majority of their profits doing tours, and the people actually do purchase their tunes. I think a majority of people just refuse to put another dollar in P fuckin Diddle Me's pocket.

That wouldn't be surprising if true.Big MD wrote:Can you prove this? if so, then this is a scandal. i meant we all in the western world have the right to say anything we want.Soiree wrote:If you post any anti sopa remarks on Facebook, it gets deleted.
Facebook and twitter work for the US Gov all the time. Loads of people have been harassed by government because of "evidence" gathered from FB/twitter. Besides used as data mining tools, the government has contracted companies to use Facebook as a huge propaganda tool (Ntrepid/OEV operation). They want to counter "extremist ideology" which could mean anything, including anti-SOPA & Occupy stuff. Really anyone who speaks out against them can be called an extremist these days. Facebook and Twitter archives are kept forever for these reasons. The entirety of Twitter was inducted into the US National Archives last year too and is being used all the time to prosecute people, most recently people associated with supporting wikileaks.

Fairly sure that's bullshit*, seen quite a lot of it about and none of it seems to get deleted.

Yeah I dunno if that is happening, I don't use FB except to see some events. Like I said though, wouldn't surprise me at all if they censor some of itcosmic surgeon wrote:Fairly sure that's bullshit*, seen quite a lot of it about and none of it seems to get deleted.

The stuff I mentioned is well documented though and the military brags about it publicly. It's hard to gather links on mobile, but just search the terms I used in parenthesis.
They like to say they won't violate local laws with it, and they have never done that before of course...
(What was that sarcasm font again?)
Re: SOPA & the battle for the Internet
One thing facebook seems to have done for sure is stop mass invites to the black march thing.
i can't even invite under 10 people without it telling me to target my invites to people who may find it interesting

Its bollocks. There are plenty of posts from mates of mine about it that haven't been deleted. The only time it would get deleted is if someone reported it to Facebook mods.James Kofi wrote:hopefully soon they roll out this service to include all the ill conceived, attention seeking, pop-political statuses on the site.Soiree wrote:If you post any anti sopa remarks on Facebook, it gets deleted.

Mediafire said they have no plans to change. This seems mostly a backlash from Hollywood, mediafire hosts mostly music.leyenda303 wrote:I'm worried about Mediafire disappearing. Their links don't seem to die like most of the others.
A few more have apparently shut down sharing, though fileserve doesn't seem to have changed even though this article says so: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/story ... 52760484/1
Some funny arguments going on in the comments. People trying to basically equate downloading an album with breaking into kanye's house and stealing one of his cars.

Has ACTA been mentioned yet?
A load of European countries (including the UK) signed the treaty today. A lot of it's been done behind closed doors.
Apparently there was a 20,000 strong protest in Poland over it - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16735219
