I think putting coki & brostep in the same sentence is an insult to him, seeing as the whole "sub-genre" was created off people trying to bite his style.
I'm not a massive fan of his but he's a quality producer. I obviously don't know him or anything but it seems as if (in my opinion) he's just sick of everyone imitating him and he's just thought, fuck it, and made some crazy tunes

Re: coki haters
how can you hate the don. the guy that dropped haunted, the guy who focused on mid range instead of coma inducing bass. His versatility is oof deh h00k (goblin vs. red eye for example) besides listening to burnin' and smokin a fatty is just proper insane you getme

Sometimes I feel that if some alien race is first exposed to human culture through DSF, they will come away with the impression that the foulest swearword in the English language is 'midrange'.
Coki's stuff is cool. I like his more straight reggae-ish tunes, and I like the fact that his wobbly ones still have some dynamic range and a more analogue/dubby feel to the drums. Still not something I'd want to listen to for hours on end, of course, but then the man himself must agree, because he always throws in the other ones as well...

Re: coki haters
My coki issue is not with midrange, I like "Marduk" for example, "Carbon Aliens" was awesome and one of the best things he's done recently. But I really think "Urban Ethics" was quite poor, and the latest EP was no improvement.
Coki has always been hit or miss for me, regardless of his style. "The End" is awesome, so is the "RedEye" EP for example. "Shattered" is another golden one. But "Mood Officer" or "Spongebob" I don't care for. It's been like that from day one for me.The fact that Coki's very hit or miss for me has nothing to do with "midrange" or "bro-step", but more with consistency problems, much less an issue with Mala innit.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on Urban Ethics. Maybe he could have not used exactly the same bass-mid patch on 4 different tracks, but there's some good stuff on it regardless.

On what 4 different tracks? You realise there's only 7 tracks on it and those include Serious, Old Hope, It and Intergalactic, right? Shock It and Robotnik sound slightly similar, and I personally think Shock It is one of his weakest ever tracks, but come on son...tragiclifestories wrote:I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on Urban Ethics. EDIT: ok, no haters, just not lovers
i love this new tune... the synth is sick and i think the vocal works perfectly
and his tunes are fucking mental when dropped at a dance

Re: coki haters
Coki is one of my favorite dubstep artists. He has a very mixed output of tunes. I feel like a lot of people miss out on the subtleties of tunes like Carbon Aliens and Robotnik, dismissing them as repetitive. Fair enough if you don't like his recent output, more tunes for me, but to go out and say he's a 3rd grader is just plain stupid (you're an asshole cornbread). Recent tunes like Celestial Dub and Warlord Riddim also show he hasn't lost his dubby side. I would like to see Coki collab again with Benga though...

(i have no idea what is happening)
If this is the future, it seems highly livable: shiny, cool and comfortably dissonant. Like a low dose of ketamine in an empty, luminous airport hall in northern Japan, eating avocado and waiting for the universe to arrive.
