Question about NI Maschine

Post by SuperRyDog » Tue Jan 24, 2012 3:01 am

I want to buy Maschine for something pretty specific, but I'm not sure if it can do it... This sounds stupid but w.e.

Im getting pretty interested in live performance, I'd like some way to have multiple synths or sounds at the touch of a finger, but also able to modify them. Ideally I'd like to play a live bassline lol. Is it possible to attach different synths to different pads on Maschine and assign the knobs to things like filter cut offs or wavetables? I know it's possible to attach one synth to a group, but diff synths on diff pads in the same group?

I know I could record the synth sound and attach the wav to the pad and use effects to modify the sound, but the idea of having control over the synth is much more appealing.

Hopefully that made sense...
thanks

Yes. Also it has full integration knob wise with other NI's product. You can also loop samples (but you can't timestretch them). You could assign a sample to each pad and modulate them using maschine's FX or other VST or open the soft synth inside a pad in maschine and set it to run in key mode if you want to play the notes. You can't attach a synth to a group, only FX VSTs. Can also fire your samples in the form of patterns. A combination of different patterns (one per group) can be fired as a scene. Those patterns can be changed at any moment during play, scenes are fired to the grid. You can turn on quantization to fire samples or not. It works a lot like Ableton + Launch Pad. You may want to hold on that though. NI is likely to release a controller / traktor software for that.

The price tag can be intimidating, but seriously, buy it and never look back.
It has a learning curve if you're not used to groovebox styled workflows, but the way the Maschine is designed it's quite easy to pick up and learn intuitively. Hell, my 8 year old cousin had no problem layering a 8 bar loop after 30 minutes or so of play.

Also the MP60 / S1200 engine modes are great for beatmaking.
