hard attacking/pluck sub
im wondering how to make a sub with a very strong attack that hits almost as hard as a kick would. a good example is kryptic minds-no more no less. the sub hits between the kicks and just plucks so nicely, but i cant seem to get it to be that strong. ive messed with res and cutoff as that seems to be the direction. any types of tips some of you guys could help me out with?
note: I'm not trying to remake the song/same exact sound. I'd just like to create a patch of a sub with a very heavy attack.
thanks for any help in advance!
heres a link to the tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO7artWP94s

Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
zero attack time (low-pass so you don't get clicking), low sustain on amp envelope, pitch bend on attack e.g 7 semi-tones bending down to your root note extremely quickly will all give your sub punch - I think for that tune they used a low-passed 808 kick though.
You could also look at transient shaping if your using samples

Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
yeah 808s are what you want.
Heres some 808 samples....

Heres how you would make it in something like massive...

Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
awesome, thanks for the help guys. be good.
Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
make your amp envelope look like a downward ramp, which is basically one cycle of a saw wave that starts at maximum volume and quickly decays to silence. I mean, you kinda answered your own question in the topic title.
Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
oh, and making an 808 you have to have the attack rise in pitch quickly, then during the decay it will pitch down slowly.
Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
This, fast pitch bend at start of note gives a more pronounced attack, very easy to set up in massive and a very good technique to use on variety of sounds.vertx wrote:zero attack time (low-pass so you don't get clicking), low sustain on amp envelope, pitch bend on attack e.g 7 semi-tones bending down to your root note extremely quickly will all give your sub punch - I think for that tune they used a low-passed 808 kick though.

Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
just incase you were wondering Kryptic Minds said that the bass they used in No More No Less was an 808 sample. It was the track they were doing in their masterclass
<keep it heavy>
Re: hard attacking/pluck sub
yeah 808s the way to go. thanks for all the help people.
