I dunno man, the guy openly admits he's a tribute to Burial. Don't think it's intended as anything other than that. What can you do? There's more than enough similarities between other artists in the dubstep scene.

yeah man i understand that and fair enough that the guy loves Burial and is clearly influenced by him, but as a producer myself i just dont understand why anyone would want to completely dedicate themselves to copying someone else. obviously he can do what he likes, he's not doing any harm, just a bit puzzled by it is all haha

i mean im massively influenced by burial and often find myself making tunes that have that vibe to it but for me part of the fun of making music is trying out new things and having fun with it and i just dont think id find it fun at all making a whole batch of tunes that are just concious imitations of someone else's sound

but yeah anyway, not having a go or anything just bit confused really

there's some other guy called Ghostek who is also really similar. has done loads of tunes which sound just like burial but to be fair to him has also made quite a few tunes that atleast have his own kinda mark on it. worth checking out

Yeah, Ghostek's a badman, really nice guy too. I can see what you're saying, but when I listen now, I can easily discern a Ghostek tune from a Burial tune, maybe because I've spent A LOT of time listening to both though? Haha. Quality anyway.

Curiously dull stuff: Burial (2007) version 0.2 mebbe.

Also curious about the enormous size of the FLAC archive this album comes in from 'Dark Clover Records': 637MB for 57 minutes is insane - extracted to *.wav it is over 900MB [for, let me repeat, 57 minutes]- WTF is going on?

Because the spirit of Burial is held within.

Again though, in his defence, he does call that album a tribute to Burial. Think of it as a cover band, nobody walks away from seeing The Smiths Indeed moaning they sounded like The Smiths haha.

His stuff with Bulb is quality though.

Good point, if it's a tribute to Burial, then it better sound like Burial right, or at least emote the same feelings.

I Miss You is a great song too. must admit. he uses the vinyl pops/tape hissin to excess though. in every song.

i would too if i could make it, beautiful sound

Even though I think blatent copycating of an artist is creatively a waste of time, it's hard to argue that he hasn't done a good job of replicating the sound. As someone mentioned above though, it's obvious he has taken his favourite burial tracks and tried to do his "version" of them, even going as far as to use the same samples. I must admit, I did cringe when I heard the Ray J vocal in the last track. "Unfeeling" is a lovely track though. That track actually seems like he's tried to take more of his own approach to the music rather than straight-up replicating Burial.

i can definitely understand why people might be turned off by his album sounding too much like burial, but i think it's a great album, anyway. it obviously takes tons and tons of influence from burial, but i think he's developed a bit of his own sound, as well. "you in me" uses that ray j sample, sure, but i don't think i'd ever mistake it for a burial tune - it just has a totally different vibe. i'm really interested to see where he takes his music over the next few years.

It's nice to hear something so similar, but in a (slightly) different fashion!
