No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Shit actor in generally shit films.. I don't get why people get so excited about someone so mediocre making run-of-the-mill action movies. Laziest genre ever.

He can be REALLY bad, but I'm going to say YAY because to me the following makes up for it:
Raising Arizona
Wild At Heart
He's a Coppola, but changed his name so he could make it in the business without the name association. I respect that.

It is pretty mediocre though. I'm not sure I've ever actually finished it though, tbh... I was probably 17 the last time I tried.wub wrote:magma wrote:No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

I've never really got action movies... a mate of mine reacted to me saying I'd never watched Die Hard by making me watch it the other year. I think that was the last time anyone convinced me to watch something where the lead character sports a vest, a machine gun and no personality. Utter rubbish. Too many good films to waste more time on that shit!
I'm clearly not a proper man.

action films are in general rubbish, but thats not all cage has done- some of his other stuff is good

Re: Nick Cage
the funny thing is from his interviews I can well believe that he doesn't do 'bad' films for the money, he genuinely seems to be deeply involved in every project. For instance he was banging on about researching the history of witchcraft and getting into character for 'The Sorcerers Apprentice' which was just some crap Disney Movieleyenda303 wrote:clearly just loves the money

Re: Nick Cage
If by your own admission you find the action genre to be lacking then how can you really judge an actor based on the work he's done in that genre alone? Watch Adaptation. If you like Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine or Synecdoche: New York you will most likely enjoy it as its written by the same screenwriter, Charlie Kaufman. Or just watch Bad Lieutenant because that shows his acting ability and is hilarious when he's tripping balls.magma wrote:It is pretty mediocre though. I can't say I've ever found the lack of Nic Cage in my life to be something I've needed to work on changing. There are a LOT of good films out there so I expect if he was in one, I'll end up seeing it at some point.leyenda303 wrote:If by your own admission you find the action genre to be lacking then how can you really judge an actor based on the work he's done in that genre alone? A mediocre actor can be lit up by a great script. A great actor can make a bad script come to life... even Keanu Reeves has managed the odd acceptably good performance in a great movie.

Re: Nick Cage
always got time for Cage, so a definite yay.
trip-lits!!?
trip-lits!!?
Re: Nick Cage
Con air was made good by all the supporting actors. Cage just happened to be in it.
imo, he's been in some really, really bad films, so many, in fact, that i'm actively biased against films with him in. I will not watch them due to being let down so many times. I broke this rule recently due to my friend pleading with me to watch 'Knowing' because "It's really good. I'm sure you'll enjoy it".
Needless to say I have reevaluated my friendship with that guy and the Cage embargo is firmly back in place.
Also, Magma - No, you are not a proper man!

Re: Nick Cage
I see where you're coming from and yeah there's a lot of good movies out there so it's not compulsory immediate viewing. As for the mediocre actor being lit up, that is true but Adaptation like all Kaufman films is very character driven rather than plot orientated. There's no hiding behind a good film (like Reeves did with the Matrix) when this is the case. Funnily enough it was Eternal Sunshine that convinced me Jim Carey could play a straight role really well.magma wrote:I can't say I've ever found the lack of Nic Cage in my life to be something I've needed to work on changing.
