if it was possible, i think it's rather hard, generally wherever you read somewhere that actually has a clue what "dubstep" is, you will read Midnight Request Line, which i think is fair.

but i don't think there is 1 tune that says it all for the genre, your list seems to be pretty spot on though (y)

Nas - NY State Of Mind is definitive of hip-hop, to me, if we're talking any genre

i think this one would be the one that most defines it tbh. the fact that it's got parts ranging from something that's close to dub to minimal halfstep makes it cover a wide range of the sound

When introducing dubstep to people who've never heard it (or assume Rusko invented dubstep) I play them 9 Samurai by Kode9, Southern Comfort by Burial, something by Mala or Loefah and maybe The Bug - Skeng.

SKENG! That may have been the first dark tune I ever heard, (used to listen to only DnB)... That might be my defining song

sorry
If this is the future, it seems highly livable: shiny, cool and comfortably dissonant. Like a low dose of ketamine in an empty, luminous airport hall in northern Japan, eating avocado and waiting for the universe to arrive.
