Dual LCD Monitor Enquiry

Post by E-T-F » Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:44 pm

Not technically an audio related question but tech none the less, and this forum is way more helpful than some other obscure places on the Internet. Long story short after upgrading my graphics card ive been left with a dvi and a hdmi port, i have two monitors none of which are HD ready so my question is, will using a DVI splitter on the dive port let me have an extended desktop or will it just mirror the image?

thanks in advance guys!

Pretty sure that will mirror the image. I have a graphics card with DVI and HDMI and have two different images. I'm pretty sure (80%) if you got a HDMI to DVI cable you wouldn't have this problem, they're only a few quid so worth the gamble.

if you have a desktop its preatty easy to install a new video card, otherwise your laptop's video card has to support dual monitors.

I've seen USB adapters to plug in more.
...in my opinion

i have dual monitors connected to hdmi and dvi. one just connects via hdmi cable, the other has a hdmi to dvi adapter. dvi is basically hdmi without audio.

when you say 'not hd ready', what do you mean? pretty much all monitors are of sufficient resolution to display at least a 720p picture. do you just mean that they don't have hdmi ports? if they have dvi then you can just get the adapter and run separate cables to each monitor.

yeah ive got a hdmi to dvi cable and it doesn't seem to work, it just pops up with the 'no signal' image, my initial idea was that it might be a compatibility issue? but i'm not to knowledgeable about monitor resolutions and things of that nature.
