WHUDDUPWIDDIT? New to the forum as an active member, but been reading it for almost a year. I actually got out of the EDM scene around the time dubstep was making it's entrance into America...started producing hip-hop, and though I always have been and am still a fan, it took me ten years to realize it was not at all what I wanted to do. :u: I originally got into production to make breaks and dnb, but once I was out of the element, hip-hop seemed natural...now I plan to go electronic (no specific genre, except I will not be making trance or happy hardcore because I'm deathly allergic to it) and once I have a decent environment for recording I will incorporate more organic sounds...The worst part of producing hip-hop was having to fuck with rappers...because the truly talented ones are few and FAAAAR between and everyone wants a beat for free. I had to quit telling people I had recording equipment because they or someone they knew was about to be "the new hot shit", if only they had a place to record...Apparently meeting someone for half an hour and puffing some dank with them makes you "friends" and not just acquaintances...sorry for the rant...long story short...dubstep is the shit because it has all the electronic sounds I crave, with grimy hip-hop beats I can nod my head to...glad to be part of the community... :Q:

Greetings.

I'm a 28 yr old American living in MI. Been listening to DnB/Breaks, etc. since 96. Was too caught up while serving in the military to learn how to produce since the software wasn't really there yet, so I began as an amateur last month remixing my fav video game soundtracks of yore (original, I know.). I'm a latecomer to dubstep and only really got into it last year. Been lurking and want to be able to bounce stuff off the valuable opinion and knowledge represented here. With the lack of money being a divorced single parent, I use reason because I can't afford real gear atm and I like how everyone else really doesn't use it. Not really looking to make any money with my music, only to thoroughly enjoy and be proud of my work so I can share it with my son (who will be an electrohead too.) I like foreign language (know 4), and have played in bands of just about every genre there is that has a guitar.

Nice t' meet you all.

Hello,

my name is Ruslan and I'm recently was introduced to dubstep scene. Being about and around it for one year now I formed my own perception of the genre and it's roots. I'm currently a producer who capable of working with this style of music, but my works spread from trance to techno over the last 7 years of work.

All the best, Ruslan
Sound is no longer exists, visuals are no longer real. But why we think of sound as a whole and visuals as a plurality?

Hey guys thought i'd throw a hello to all on the forums. Look forward to hopefully learning a few things and in goodtime posting a few tunes up!!

I'm 24 into a veeeery wide range of music, i collected old dub and reggae records for a while. Played drums in a punk/ska band for a few years. Been listning to dnb and breakbeat for about 8 years or so. Im also playing drums trying to get a metal band together with a friend. Found myself really into skrillex, flux pavilion etc lately so i want to start a one man project making dubstep breakbeat type tunes i can do on my own in my own time :)

Hey hello

I'm 17 years old from Australia, I come from a small town and used to write and play in bands but have recently heavily gotten in electronic music and real dubstep.

I have a wide range of taste in music as well but I'm a huge fan of electronic artists such as Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Lone, Shlomo, Burial, SebastiAn, Justice, Seekae, some Zero 7 tracks, Clams Casino, Digitalism, Flying lotus etc etc

I've been reading a bunch of tips and advice over the forums for a month so I figured I'd join. Hola

Hey There.

I'm a 25yo musician from Brazil and was primarily into all kinds of Rock with heavily produced guitars and leads. That's 'cause I'm a guitarist for about 7 years now. I always liked composition and improvisation better than covering bands. Due to lots of conflict between band members regarding musical tastes, I never quite found a band I would fit into. Also, as I said before I always liked composition better, and messing around with timbres and producing was my favorite part. So recently I was introduced to new electrohouse songs with distorted synths and cool timbres and I kinda liked it and started to dig into this. Then I found dubstep with its heavy drums and basslines and cool effects and really enjoyed it. I recovered a feeling of amusement I only had with 80's hard rock songs that I was into back then. Being already an user of Logic for rock compositions I started to mess around with electronic music and wrote some songs. It's very satisfying to not depend upon other band members and studio equipment for recording. One laptop with good software and you're ready to start. I always wanted that freedom to produce and now I've founded. I've just started into dubstep and now I joined this forum to make new acquaintances on this genre, exchange information, and see what's going on in this scene.

Cheers from Brazil,
Mux

When I do these introduce yourself posts I always feel like the new guy at a support group meeting. That being said, here we go...

My name is Rob, aka Thornweave. A brief musical background. I started playing music at a young age. I began playing bass guitar in middle school, and soon after I began playing I joined my father and older brothers band. As much as it pains me to admit it, it was a country music band. Not my preferred choice in music, however, it did give me a strong foundation on musical rhythm. A couple years later my brother moved off to college, which in turn was the end of the band. Soon after that I joined up with a friends band, this time being hard rock/metal. That band lasted quite some time. It was an on and off thing, but near the end it was a solid group for about 4 years. In those 4 years we gained a high amount of local success, and had some interest from a couple of major labels. Of course nothing ever came of those labels and we finally called it quits. That was 5 years ago.

I have been dabbling in electronic music since the band broke up. It is only recently (The past 3 months) that I have began to take it seriously. It wasn't until dubstep became popular in the united states until I knew what kind of electronic music I wanted to produce. Prior to the success of dubstep the only electronic music I knew about was House, and Techno. I have never been a big fan of House, but Techno has always been appealing to me. I have always liked the use of electronic music in artists such as NiN, Rob Zombie, and Marilyn Manson. It wasn't until the success of (insert trending dubstep artist here) until I could see how the music could be done without a full band.

With all of that being said. I come here in search of advice, constructive criticism, suggestions, mentorism, etc... I have browsed the different topics and have already learned a great deal. I still struggle in certain areas when producing my songs, but aim to correct that. To put it simply, I am looking to produce music full time, and I am taking it extremely serious. My musical influences are Tool, Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, Excision, Datsik, Skrillex, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Porter Robinson, Zedd, etc...
