started about 2 months ago after collecting vinyl and itching to do something more with it. got frustrated as hell in the first couple of weeks but definitely improving. operating on 1210s with an old numark mixer

Just got my decks setup for the first time today, so I've been mixing for less than 24 hours...

Pair of 1210s and a old Numark mixer that a mate found in his attic. Of course it's early days, but I enjoyed the few hours I played around with them today.

Yeah tbh It gets really frustrating at times, whenever I mess up, or when I record the mix, and when I play it back, it sounds worse then what I thought it would be :x

A year and a half on CDJ's then I started buying vinyl so now I mix vinyl on some 20 year old Technic 1200's

I'm finding that I can do some really cool stuff when I'm by myself but I always fuck it up when I try to show people

I was mixing house, then I pulled off a near perfect mix from Daft Punk - Burning to Katy B - On A Mission, then went on a Benga rampage going from Fire to Night, then juggled Pleasure with Night for a while before mixing Pleasure into Faithless. Didn't mess up once and timed it all perfectly, I was really proud of myself but then when I tried to do the same thing again with a mate watching I fucked up all but 2 of the transitions...

thats because your trying to play a set list

things usually come alot more natural when you select as you play, instead of knowing what your gonna play before you start

That's a fair point, probably has a lot to do with it. I think it's also cos when you're being watched you feel rushed but when you're by yourself or just performing to a crowd who aren't paying muh attention you can take your time

yeah pre-mediated sets never seem to have done me any good, having your cd's all spread, or all in your wallet etc, seems to really help.
for me, when im mixing is it all about vibing off the moment ;)

Yeah I have been going at it for a over a month. What equipment do you use?
Very basic shit, bought a Numark Mixtrack Pro with Traktor 2, using my Sennheiser HD518s and about $800 worth of hi-fi for sound. Didn't really wanna spend much considering I'm not even sure this is something I'll be doing for long, but I'm having a great time so far so I don't feel like I need CDJs or turntables any time soon. Save that shit for when I'm good enough to legitimately call myself a DJ without being one of those pretentious stnuc who go around saying they're a DJ cos they just downloaded the demo of Virtual DJ on their MacBook haha

How bout you?
I've got pretty much the same set up.. although i'm hoping to get some technics in the summer.. i'm at uni and unlike previous years i don't think i'll be working this summer so if i have the money to buy some technics and a few vinyls i'll just spend the whole summer mixing and eventually getting round to playing with my oxygen25 that i've had for ages but due to uni work i've yet to touch it.

Anybody start mixing 20+? I got my numark mixtrack pro for Christmas and hoping to get some decks around my 21st birthday in May.. been collecting a few vinyls throughout the year to push me to buy some.. everybody seems to have started in their teens!

Don't play any dubstep though.
