Framing a record is just wrong!

I disagree. Sure records are meant to be played, but in the age we live in, some people buy it for sentimental reasons. I can have a rip of any song, that's not a problem, but having it in ur hands, being able to touch and smell the vinyl, it's special.
I'm talking about this from personal experience. I have like 15 vinyl I bought recently that I'm never going to open, ever. I just like having them, like a collectors item. The last record I bought, Compa's 'Dem A Talk' prefix, when it comes in. I'm going to give it a look over, touch it a couple of times, maybe hug it, and put it in storage.

You should only frame or protect a record if you've bought two of them, and play the other one.

I've only got one record I'm a little wary of, Mala - Alicia, and even that gets played regularly at home.

I can understand framing the sleeve at a push, but to just buy a record and never play it is both pointless and madness.

You can't touch or smell the vinyl when it's in a frame. You'd be able to do that more as you put it on a turntable.

one of my mates has all my vinyl for precisely this reason. after my wee bro got rid of his vinyl decks, i couldn't play my tunes anymore, so i just gave them all to my mate who djs so he could play them in the house or in clubs, whatever. better than sitting about in my room getting no plays. i'll get them back off him sometime, but in the meantime i'm just glad they're seeing some use.

Of course i don't want anyone else to have my copy, i bought it because i want to have it. Appreciate the sound? you make it seem like because i don't play the vinyl i don't love the music. I heard Joe Nice play it live, and i play the clips of it online all the time, the anti-war refix too. When i get my rip of the track, ill be set. Again, i buy vinyl more as a collectors item than to play it. It's a piece of art just like painting. I would frame each one and hang it on the wall, but im just too lazy to do so and don't have enough wall space.

Your comment just reminded me of that scene from Toy's Story 2 were Woody is going off to storage for a museum, but then has a change of heart because he doesn't want to be behind a glass box, unplayed and unloved lol.

I build my own crates and shelves with scraps of plywood leftover from my job as a carpenter.

I wish i could do this but i'm not very "handy" and wouldnt trust anything i build to be strong enough to support anything!

You didn't say you were going to rip it earlier. I didn't mention about you "loving the music" dude, I don't know you. A piece of art? The music on it is, the vinyl itself is just a black piece of plastic man, this is what I was on about when I said earlier in this thread

Remember first and foremost that records are for playing. Don't elevate them to some godlike status where you're scared to do the very thing that they're intended for!

Ive just started my vinyl collection, started off picking up Mala - Eyez Vip (accidently bought 2 actually), and just added Compa - Dem a talk to it, just waiting for it to come. Ive always lived in a house full of vinyl, my dad is big into his reggae and has always said not to really touch them with fingers. I dont think ill ever really touch mine that much (i dont even own decks atm lol) mainly because i have quite sweaty palms that is quite acidic (all sweat contains acids which is one of the reasons why when people handle old books they use gloves). I quickly burn through keys on the keyboard and console controllers, so i can only imagine that it would ruin the grooves in my vinyl.

You can always tell if a second hand record has been dj'd with in my opinion. Apparently touching them isnt healthy for the record but if you do dj then you have no other choice. Ive scratched some of my records just removing them from the sleeve in a hurry and i dont understand why most dubstep vinyl doesnt have a paper sleeve aswell as the cardboard one.

Because buying 300 paper sleeves means that's more money you've gotta make from your release just to break even.

i keep DMZ003 separate from the rest but that's because im scared im gonna damage it... none of the others get that special treatment, although i tore the sleeves for both skreamizm 2 and author LP and i was pretty pissed off about it but it's not like im gonna stop playing them.

also framing a record just doesn't make sense to me. maybe if the sleeve is really awesome then put that up or get a screen print of it or something but why would you put a record on the wall? unless i'd released my own vinyl, then i'd frame it for sure!
