I've just moved from the UK to Lubbock, Texas.
I've realised very quickly that there is not a lot (well nothing) going on anywhere near me in terms of intelligent bass music.
The only night I have seen advertised in my town for example is Excision :u:
I'm calling for help from people from Texas and the surrounding states for nights that don't put on screechy wobble.
I am prepared to travel a fairly long way. I just need some leads.
Peace :Q:
In texas, only person I know right off hand is Bokator... he produces a variety himself, but if you PM'd him on here he might know where you can find event listings and the like.

good luck man, the intelligence hasnt moved too far west yet, you get some decent acts up around the northeast into the midwest a bit, but down south/far west... IDK... seems pretty aggro to me.
I disagree. The pacific northwest has a pretty decent scene. Here in Portland, Oregon, there's a fairly large following of the deeper stuff.
Been to a few nights on the deeper tip?

Aren't you the hella young dude?
Yup but that doesn't mean that I don't talk to people that go to the nights (high school friends) and I also generally hang out with a group of people who are into the sound so I get a lot of exposure to the scene through my older friends who do go to these nights.

I gotta say, that's probably my favorite Skreamizm. My favorite track on there would have to be If You Know.
MAN that track is good
It's certainly a solid EP. But in honesty I have no idea why Simple City was chosen for it rather than the monster that is Levitated.

Word. Simple City wasn't that great, to be honest it sounds like a mediocre version of Exothermic Reaction to me. And Levitated is :U: :U: :U:

Moved here for Graduate school mate. I honestly didn't think it would be this bad. I've been trying to educate a select few but literally nobody has a clue.
Thanks for all the sound advice people.

Pretty sure I'm gonna try and head up to Denver for the Deep Medi night in April. I'm also going to get down to Austin too for a weekend so will make sure I coincide it with something decent :h:

Also I love how this thread has turned into a discussion about Simple city

Dude, if you are for real 12 and hanging out with high school kids and you aren't into drugs, you must one fucking cool kid. Haha. I know plenty of people who wouldn't be caught dead hanging out with a 12 year old, unless he was fucking hoss. Not my opinion, of course, but still. Haha.
And houston is pretty bad about our filth meter. It's heavy out here almost all the time. But, when rolling, i love it, so it's whatever.

Take people saying things like the "biggest dubstep scene in the US" with a grain of salt. Its big all over!

Yeh man don't worry I realise that! I just think If I go 12 months without getting to see someone play out, I might go slightly insane.
I even considered buying some technics out here and trying to promote a local scene. Though i've come to the conclusion that there is really no point :u:

It's not uncommon, I've met probably around 20 people who moved from the UK, not including family.
Austin has people from all over. If you're looking for big events with big crowds, it does happen there too but for the most part the weekly nights are usually a tight-knit crowd of mostly the same people (unless it's someone like Rusko of course). It's free quite a bit too. Much better atmosphere than big events imo.

Yeh man that's exactly what I'm looking for. Head's down, dark rooms, good sound etc :h: Planning on going to Austin around spring break time, so will keep my eyes out for anything going on :Q:

re: Denver and dubstep, while it's true that you guys have an insanely silly number of shows, a lot of it is aimed at the college market (i.e. brostep & yoiyoiyoi out the wazoo) and whenever I get to Denver my nose bleeds constantly from the ridiculous lack of humidity.

Not to knock the mile-high city - just sayin'. :6:

To the OP:

Austin's definitely your best bet. You could drive 7+ hours each direction, or you could just buy a plane ticket (shouldn't be more than $100 and some change) and spend those extra 14 hours drinking on 6th Street and hearing bass on a proper system. There's probably some stuff in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area - marginally closer - but not having seen any real bass culture there I can't speak for quality of what you might find.

Haha 13 but yeah thanks man. And not I'm huge into drugs, but the high school kids I hang out with are really chill and I'd like to think that I am too ;-) But yeah we mainly just hang out and talk about/listen to music, and two of them make tunes (though not as obsessively as me  ), so we collab and play around with tracks a lot too. Also, most of us live on the same street and I go to a school that's a middle school and a high school, so a lot of us go to the same school.

But yeah, it's a system that works great for me! :4:

Based on like a decade of media shenanigans I did not think American's attended high school until they were 21.

You know, there's always the possibility of the university having a college radio station, and you could apply for a show slot.

If you're in Lubbock you've gotta try and play to it's strengths. Get acquainted with some country music. I see Willie Nelson is playing March 4th, and he's bringing a Funktion 1 Soundsystem... Ok I think the last bit's a lie, but how else is he going to bring in the vital 'intelligent bass' crowd?

Yeh man I saw this. I'm waiting for Medi to release all of there tour dates. I'm hoping they might play in Houston or Austin. If not, then I'm pretty sure I'll come to Denver. It might cost me a small fortune though but it will be worth every penny :h:

I mean, how else is he going to make "On The Road Again" really hit?
