My wife is trying to quit smoking.
I`ve never smoked so I don`t understand the physical, mental and emotional addiction.
She is naturally pissed off at the world now because of a chemical imbalance resulting from pms and non-smoking.
She has been baiting me into arguments for the last day, she even admitted to doing it but is too pissed off to stop.


So she finally broke down and went to the shop to buy cigs.
Before she went though, she once again baited me into an argument, all of these arguments are about smoking or similarly related.
So she starts by saying she`s going to go buy smokes because she can`t take it, what do I think?
So I was honest and told her that I can`t do anything to help her with this, either she stops or doesn`t.
Either she goes to buy the smokes or just sucks-it up and doesn`t smoke.
What more could I say?

She proceeds to dump on me for not supporting her during this.
If I`d told her to not go, she would have been upset because she couldn`t smoke.
If I`d told her to go, I`m not supporting.
Either way, I can`t win.

Personally I don`t understand.
Why is it that I`ve never smoked and don`t care to, but I need to support her emotionally, etc. etc.
So what she`s saying is that she's is incapable of quitting without my help.
Help being?
I`ll be wrong either way.
I actually want to say to her, you created this, you stop it.
Either you have the emotional strength to deal with your shit or not but how the fuck did it become my fault?

i quit smoking around two months ago. and i was nearly a chain smoker, i could go through a pack like nobody's business, then if i ran out, i'd always try to bum off other people lol. it really is mind over matter. just have to keep busy when you get those cravings..they only last for about 5 minutes and they'll go away. it's tough but..i'm really amazed i was able to do it. i'm sure your wife can but you're right, there's nothing you can really do to help her.

it's ridiculous, the past 4 films I've watched to coincide with uni readings have been hamlet, measure for measure, coriolanus and duchess of malfi... i've had it up to here with old english speak, it actually puts me to sleep. Actually sighed pretty loudly when pretty much everyone died at the end of malfi

She attempted cold turkey but she couldn`t take it.
I think cutting down is a better bet but I can just see her going from 20-10 a day and then back to 20.
I`ll definitely help wherever I can.
She was/is a chain smoker though so any type of cutting down must help.
That being said, she smokes BNH no1 which is super light.
She`s moved on to boxes of 10s but is now smoking Styvie blues.
Which is pretty pointless considering it`s maybe 10-20x stronger.

yeah i tried cutting down and then quiting, its easy to cut right down to maybes even a couple a day but to then stop is just as hard as going cold turkey. I went cold turkey afer 5 years of smoking 20 a day or more and iv been off them for 2years now
