Next time be sure to synchronize your firefox next time. It's allows you to recover all favs and bookmarks etc.

I exported my bookmarks via HTML before handing it in, and reimporting them when I got it back, but my Bookmark Toolbar had to be repopulated drag & drop style by hand.
