ah bumnuts, exceeded bandwidth..anyone for the re-load?
and living in sheffield i got a bit of an ear for niche, alot of shite, but definatly a good deal of quality tunes that are well produced with the raver in mind.

I've liked a lot of what of heard of this kind of stuff... some well cheesy vocals but mad basslines... few dubstep artists seem to be influenced by or at least producing a similar sound...
The Trouble and Bass records, emalkay's code red EP, Dubchild - this is serious, that 4x4 mix of L.A.S. on army.

So - is this Bassline house biznis from the North? (Yorkshire). Is it connected to what peeeps are doing in London? I'm a bit out of touch with Garage thesedays!

The bit in the clip sounded a bit naff - but then quite a bit of dubstep is a bit naff as well I suppose

For me it´s a big difference. The "up-north" sound is all about big basslines (pretty much all) while the london guys still got loads of that bumpy oldskool flavour.

Up north it has evolved into its own sub-genre really. Niche (takes its aname from the club in Sheffield) obviously share a lot with older and newer 4/4 or speed garage but it has certain characterstic such as dark whining basslines and a pretty metronomic tempo.

Here are a couple of mixes i upped on another music forum.

Nice Jan 03 Mix by resident Big Ang.

DJ Qs 4x4 mic Vol 5. He plays right across the 4x4 garage spectrum on his 1xtra show with even splurts of grime.

not to be a genre dullard, but the stuff at the end of gee's CD is (southern) funky house not the (northern) dark bassline house... they do sound different!

Ah right - the plot thickens. Who are the biggest players on the Funky house tip? Do they play UK producers or is it from the ststes (or both).
Sorry to ask stupid questions but i'm curious about all this.

Seems funny that there is a distinction between Niche and UKG - reminds me of back in the day people saying "Underground Garage" NOT "speed garage"

Anyways it has to be good that peeps are making their own scenes in their own localities - might need to think about a bit of quality control mind

It's the cheesy 'r n b' samples that i think are the issue with it, Like has some mad basslines that are large, but with shit likw akon over the top of it............????
Also dont think i would personally wanna be having to grace niche that often it gets a jokes in there.
