@obzen i love that first drop. the way the bass drops with that airy wobble is so sick. your use of the vocals throughout was awesome.

@jaktonik try adding some variation in there. a drop with very subtle bass wobbles would be a cool addition in my opinion.

I just started this today cause i was really bored. i like where this one could go.

I was referring to the second track kick drum being really intense , sorry about that.. the mids and bass are fine and , it would probably not be the volume control because in house we know bass overpowers(in a good way) but its a little intense maybe Eq the mid of it a little lower so its not as loud on the ears, just a lil bit though everything else is fine. I like it .
man why do I even bother... Because I love it .. music life, music passion, music soul.

thanks for the tips everyone but i have to say i am not the best when it comes to mixing so it will stay raw haha but i will try my best

@gaol i like the arrangement and all the sounds are a good fundament but i dont feel the west coast lead so far maybe try filtering it or try a 8 bit arp playing the same midi would add something to the nice video game vibe and maybe try a big snare clap with plate reverb so it floats kinda over teh groove every now and then

@obzen you def now your stuff haha hm hard to find anything nice growls i could see the vocals effected even more like more hollow maybe layering them witha deeper one like the knife does it but that would i say to anybody who uses vocals cause i LOVE this effect. and really cool would be after the drop that migth come after the end like go really puristic and just the basis of the groove plus the sub and the "reece" together with very few melody pieces with a far away feeling.

@-boring i feel the tune thats the biggest part. i would bring this ultra chilled pad at 2 30 way earlier hm really feel it haha mixdown might need some work but the feeling is nice i think make the snare just litle bit more wet and take volume down a bit and it will flow much nicer :W:

@-boring
I don't know if it's just me, but that clap/snare in there is a little hard on my ears. Maybe try tuning that down a bit? I like the vocal cut in the song a lot. I, myself, have never been able to accomplish vocals in a song. It's a very simple song, not too much going on in there. I think it could use a bit more variation.

@Gaol
Very interesting. What you do have works together, and the mixdown seems good. There's nothing in there that's too harsh on my ears. Like I said for -boring's track, it is a bit empty. I don't mean that you should have really heavy hitting parts, because by what you've shown, that's definitely not what you're going for. So, the best I can say for you is to simply continue working on your track.

@obzen
I simply love how you've pulled off that ambient sound. It seems you've got a solid direction for where you want to take your track, and I would love to see this finished.

As for me, I'm sure it's pretty customary that I introduce myself somewhere, but I suppose I can introduce myself here and show off my wip at the same time. I go by xghozt or Firehawk, and I've been producing for around four years now. My work doesn't exactly reflect that, in my opinion (I should be much better). Anyhow, here's something that I just kind of started working on yesterday. No name for it either, as it was just from the spur of the moment.

@xghozt I'm digging this. Its got a good flow to it and you've got some sick synths going. The seems to quiet in the track however. I feel like the whole thing should be faster. Overall, its highly listenable.

@gaol I like this a lot. My favorite parts are the 8 bit sounds you've got sprinkled in and the breakdown tune. I didn't like the dub synth at first but now its been playing a couple times and its grown on me. Perhaps try a more aggressive snare.

@budspencertron The opening pad is great, reminds me of 2001 A Space Odyssey. Dub is so, so, so siiiiiick at :28, I wasn't expecting that. I love the pause at 1:56. My only suggestion is to have a beat down where you speed up the rate of wobble.

Here's an old one of mind. I like the second drop better then the first but I'm not sure how to switch the two.

Not sure if you were going for that type of feel but your drums are really robotic and linear.

@boring, i liked the hip hop vibe your tune had, it made me want to bob my head =D it has good ambience and i like the vocal samples, but there is never really an impact of any sort. i would just tighten up your sounds if anything. less reverb, even mixdown, etc. but like i said, good music =)

@xghost, its pretty groovy ill admit, but i am seeking some originality! if anything, just dont base your synths off of other artists. you wont have your own sound if you do that. but it was structured well. i would bring the drums up in the mix, and compress them a bit.

@budspencertron, i liked the idea of the track but the mid bass was a bit harsh to be honest. it was sounding really dubby, i like that. just watch the levels =P the vocal sample sounds a bit dry too. i would add some reverb to it, and maybe a little bit of reverb on just the highs of your snare.

okay so heres my newest clip guys, i really feel like im starting to get my style down, but i always sound good to me =) inform me of my flaws please!

@Eye-siC Wow that is awesome. It sounds good to me as well. That melody you put in the intro is really nice and the bass work is really good. the sounds on the build up work really well. good panning on the drop too. that added a really cool element. I felt your sub got a little off beat at some points after the drop.

@xGhozt I really liked the sounds you used. You definitely have skill. As stated above about your drums it seemed like you were going for linear but try adding some variation. maybe at 1:05 break away from the kick snare kick snare and do a breakdown style beat. i think that would be awesome.

@Veloreon Thanks for the feedback. Your track is filthy. I liked the intro a lot. it was really ominous. The second drop is where its at haha. that was sick. the melody is really cool. keep this one going.

so this is just an update of my last track. I changed just a little bit.

@-boring- Nice chilled tune! I think it's what is would sound like if Gorillaz made a dubstep track :3 I would take out the part in the beginning that's just the drums, but that's just me.

@BudSpenertron- Really nice oldschool feel. That bass is fucking massive! I dig it. If I were you though, I'd ass some reverb on the drums to give it that really spaced out dungeony feel.

@Eye-siC- Heavy, but also chilled at the same time. I really like the robo bass type thing, it sounds dope! I would just maybe have a larger buildup.

@Veloreon- I actually enjoy the first drop as well as the second, excellent production too. Everything's nice and clear. :4:

I've made a couple of WIP's in the past few weeks and was wondering what you guys think. I just switched over from Reason to Ableton :W: and am familiarizing myself with the software. Here's the first couple of tracks I've made with Live:

I'm still not done with the intro here-

This one is half house, but the dubstep starts at around 2:08-

@gaol

Interesting. Very interesting. It has kind of a chill video game vibe, digging the drums, but not really feeling the YOI-type synth.

@BudSpencertron

Awesome job! I'm loving the vocal samples and formant sounding synth, the tracks really well done

@Veloreon

The track has some really cool synths in it, but the kick is coming through really weak, the track doesn't feel really powerful if you know what I mean

Here's a new WIP of mine, it's like a cross between Moombahcore and Electro-House, hence the genre name on SC.

@Acro - First track Overload-wip is very nice; That pad is really big with just the right amount of wideness. I am particularly drawn towards the mid rang sounds they all sound well together, but the one that interests me the most is the one that sounds nice and thick at 2:10 sounds like it pitches up and down: really nice! only downside is the Snare & hats sound thin and sit really low in the mix can hardly hear the snare! Nice track overall though!

@Sydious - Shaolin is tight mate, Kick & Snare sits well in the mix, I would have liked to hear some Percussion IMO. I love that little hiccup FX noise sounds wicked! nice work!!

@PeriKardium - Dude nothing wrong with the keys, they sound OK maybe they could do with some slight subtractive EQing to get rid of some bad frequencies (ring-outs).. Also you track just lacks mixing skills; For example the snare gets buried in the mix, this is nothing to do with Compression its more to do with gain structure. you will find if you bring your predominant sound (heaviest) I.e Bass drum, Sub bass & snare channel faders down in the mix you will have more headroom in the mix and your sounds wont be fighting for room.. start by bring you kick to about -7dB or even as low as -14 and mix everything to your kick and sub bass! i know it might seem low in volume but you can ride the master out hard and if it doesn't distort when cranked up fully your onto a winner. see how you go on! also try cutting out any low and high frequencies on all channels thats not needed in the mix.. this will also free up headroom! leave around 3-6dB headroom for mastering..Hope this helps.

Here's a little something I've been working on; Feedback would be nice guys! Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. I've gotten the kick comment before and I can't figure out how to remedy it. Any advice?

1. Get a new kick sample. If you have a dropbox I can send you a few that I use a lot.

2. Sidechain the kick to the bass, that's where it's really getting lost.

3. Boost the EQ around 90HZ (or wherever the sample is sitting)
