I wouldn't recommend this. it's supposed to be where the bass drops in not the master volume. It's all about the few bars before the drop.Hircine wrote:automate your master fader so everything that's not a "drop" section is at -1.0~-2.0 dbs.

Have the build up with all the reverse cymbals and shit, the you leave a bar where you can only hear a reverb from the build up, have a crash, kick and nice bass sound when it drops

Re: intensifying a drop
When I'm trying to "fill out" a track, i usually just record a few samples of outside/bong hit/friend yelling, and time stretch it and shit. It usually makes it sound waaayyyy more professional, and now you have a cool unique, organic ambiance to put behind your drop.

Melodies, Vocals before drop!
Hello! Shamans here - We are new in the production of Dubstep. One of our members have been working with FL studio for about 4 years now, and knows a lot about the program. Thats not the topic.
We want to make our first dubstep track, and we wanted to know, if anyone had any ideas for melodies, any tips or tricks?
Also we wanted to know if anybody had any ideas for vocals before the drop? They need to be hard and simple. Just a oneshot sample or anything like that!
Peace!

Re: Melodies, Vocals before drop!
Use a kick and snare sample to start with, you can`t do without them.

Re: Melodies, Vocals before drop!
Presumably as you've been making tunes for 4 years, you've already got the basis of melody writing down - Dubstep is just the same, maybe stick more with minor key stuff.Shamans wrote:Hello! Anything is good, same as with other genres.

If you're making some skrillex-style: Shouts, screaming and swearing, lots of swearing. for example: "-kick roll- CRASH "ALRIGHT tnuc FUCK OFF" -drop-".Shamans wrote:well, what i wanted basicly, is just any vocals or anything to use for the drop. If you're more into Phaeleh/Burial: timestretched vocals or meaningful quotes about emotional things. for example: "Once upon a time it was you I adored"
But in all honestly, search yourself. We don't need to tell you what kind of sample to use, nor what kind of melody to write. Be free, make music.

Have a listen to a selection of Dubstep tunes that you like, and make note of what they've done before the drop. Then try your own variations on it.
Drop programming for Dubstep is much like buildups etc for other genres - maybe draw on your production techniques from the past 4yrs and adapt those?

Re: Melodies, Vocals before drop!
Surely just listening to your favorite style and making music in a similar vein is really all you need to worry about?
Just follow the basics and experiment experiment experiment

Was thinking about sampeling a "Screw you guys, im going home!" and then take the "Home" and make it really deep and hard. Maybe distorted. Any tips on doing that?

Hey I have been making music for years and I heard about this Dubstep thing and now I want to be a Dubstep superstar like that dude with the funky hair.

Just try listening to some artists and then make your own thing!
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Any tips on what? Sounds like you already know what you're doing
