DJs, how do you redeem yourself after a bad set?

Post by Soiree » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:50 pm

Or developing photos instead of using a digital camera.
white out!

I fucked up on Sunday, I asked to open my local house weekly, my favorite club night in my area, and my mixing was rather off beat, I've played there before, playing my usual dubstep, breaks, 2-step, minimal UK bass, and had a really good set. But I wanted to play house, which I was evidently unprepared to mix perfectly, and resulted in a few :u: train wrecks, I feel like I let down my friends who throw the party, not to mention the dance floor and the club, basically everyone involved in making the night happen :i: , It seems like in a small town, one bad set could ruin a reputation, also makes me think Vinyl is the way of the past and I need to get hooked up with digital software in order to ensure a smooth transition every time, I'm sure it could result in more & better shows with no fumbles at the decks.

DJs, how do you deal, after a faulty DJ set?

And, as far as the battle between Vinyl and Digital?
Apples to oranges, I was the only DJ who train wrecked, and the only DJ playing vinyl.

Use the experience as an incentive to better yourself.

(Same as with any knock back in life really TBH)

i wouldn't worry about it, very few people would know if you've clanged it or not. I honestly have no idea how good at mixing any of the big names i've witnessed are.

90% of ravers are there to have a good time and make excited noises when a track they recognise rolls in, there are few very chin strokes out there who're actually assessing your mixing capabilities. And who the fuck cares about impressing them anyway.

shit happens

i dont think you should be blaming your medium as fault. i still use and play out vinyl all the time and its great, mixing is not troublesome.

that being said, its super easy to lock mixes with cdjs.. and traktor has i think an auto sync button if thats what you are looking for..

In a perfect world..

This really shouldn't be a problem...
because everyone that knows how to mix vinyl
knows what can go wrong...

and so If the crowd is unexperienced enough to hold it against you - well fuck them.

but in reality - everyone expects ultimate perfection - and whatever you do...
do not be an ugly girl and try this...

I mean - they don't even want to be caught giving attention in the first place...
and definatly not if you can't undeniably legitimize your talent in lieu of genetic superiority...

i bet y'all are late on catching the hermetic allegory in every episode - parsons..?

Did you just blame your records? It sounds like you didn't practice and learn your material well enough.

Shit happens though, you just gotta keep carrying on. Early on in my DJ career I picked up the wrong needle in a packed club. I have had loads of other things happen while DJ'ing. It didn't stop me from moving forward.

for your next set play dub on cdjs and just wheel up every tune during a quiet bit and cut the next tune in to help with the mixing problem :corntard:
