Retard monitor question
Hey
Just got some rokkit's in the post. They look epic and I've hooked them up to the mains, but I presumed they would atleast come with a cable to connect them to the damn computer.....
Am I now going to have to shell out lots more cash just to get some cables so I can connect them to my laptop? And which ones should I get?
I'm clueless with monitors. Thanks.

Re: Retard monitor question
I may be wrong but i think you need an audio interface or something along those lines. It plugs into a usb/fire wire port and has monitor outputs. may be wrong but im also a beginner with monitors and this is what ive assumed is the way forward!!!
Re: Retard monitor question
Indeed, audio interface/soundcard is what you need.

But I... already... have a soundcard? Built in to my laptop? o.OKochari wrote:Indeed, audio interface/soundcard is what you need.

Sorry, I've just never bought monitors before, and I really don't want to splash out anymore (student), the KRK's pretty much wiped out my finances for this month as it is.
Is there no way I can just buy a cable to go from a port on the back into my headphone jack or something?
Re: Retard monitor question
You can, if you want all your sounds to be heavily distorted and rubbish
Unfortunately inbuilt laptop soundcards are pretty shite.
Audio interface is bang on the money, you get multiple inputs/outputs as well as decent monitoring (depending on the model you get of course)

Re: Retard monitor question
lol this realisation must be gutting
Re: Retard monitor question
I could use the search button but I'm trying to do 3 things at once right now - one more question-
If I use this cheap as chips thing:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews ... ddFourStar
With these to connect from the laptop to the interface to the monitors (RCA cables) :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/RCA-Phono-Plugs ... f_cr_shvl2
Will that be pretty shoddy quality?

Re: Retard monitor question
I use a piece of string, and a couple of yoghurt pots. Sounds great!
Seriously, audio interface > balanced cables(trs or xlr i believe) > monitors. That's your best bet for the highest sound quality.

Re: Retard monitor question
I used that interface for a while, and it definitely worksPerej wrote:I could use the search button but I'm trying to do 3 things at once right now - one more question-

Re: Retard monitor question
What kind of laptop exactly? What kind of soundcard? If it's recent, you can probably get by for a few weeks with it. It's not ideal, but Macs come with half decent sound cards usually, and the HD audio chips like Soundmax on PCs aren't the worst, though far from ideal. That+ www.asio4all.com
As another cheap but great interface, I'd recommend an E-MU 0404 USB. There might be some issues with Mac and/or Win 7 though. Search google for some info. Otherwise it's a nice little entry level interface that can be found for around 50 quid or so. Cheaper on ebay.

Re: Retard monitor question
yeah, you'll need an interface unless you dj, you could run from computer using a 3.5mm > rca to the mixer and then trs to the monitors

Who shells out $400 without researching??
I research everything I`m spending a bit of cash on.
Let alone the fact that on a daily basis folks talk about monitors and needing to buy cables.

If you plan on shelling your money out for Behringer stuff: simply don't. Connect your laptop directly to the monitors for a while and save some cash for a decent interface like the Focusrite Saffire 6 mentioned abovePerej wrote:I could use the search button but I'm trying to do 3 things at once right now - one more question-
