USB moniters? Nah check these out http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051WAM64/ref ... B0051WAM64
They are priced at 109 or so and you will have these for a lot longer than shitty used moniters. I just got mine in the mail a few weeks ago and theyre really impressive. Self powered and everything. Worth a franklin.

There's nothing wrong with used monitors, they're only shitty if you get shitty monitors. Used high quality monitors will last a lot longer than new low quality monitors, obviously depending on how old they are, but some monitors hold well for 20 years.

Agreed^ I just assumed that they may be his first pair of moniters so I suggested getting AV40's since they are compact, amazing quality for the price, and not "USB Powered". lol that was my biggest issue, the usb part. By saying usb moniters you did mean like usb powered correct? Quick question btw should I keep a fan on the monitor with the amp in it? It gets pretty damn hot at times.

ye I don't really understand what USB monitors are, i've never seen monitors powered by USB, seems a bit pointless? Also it depends how hot they're getting, active monitors get warm but not hot.

powered monitors will get hot. You can't really overheat before blowing amp, so no worries.

They are average sized, and yeah they're not passive monitors. Ones got the amp in it and that one doesn't get just warm. Wierd thing is I'll turn the off for maybe an hour and let em cool down and I come back and their still warm. Then with the volume 1/4 the way up withing 10 minutes their a frying pan again. lol they have no off switch either which was kind of odd.

haha btw do not get "USB Monitors" If there is even such a thing. If they are powered through USB thats plain dumb. Get some decent monitors the quality of your mixdowns will thank you for it.

Wow. I've never heard of something like that. Mine are powered through a power cord and just plug in directly with a headphone plug and component cables.

I have the Alesis M1 Active 520 USB monitors and personally I love 'em. But I'm a noobie and couldn't say how accurate they are. Cost me £160ish.

I got my powered monitors (M-Audio AV40's) They are pretty good. There is ways to test accuracy, if you have a mic and some time to do research it isn't too hard. Anyways I got mine for $110.

I have USB monitors, there's absolutely nothing wrong with them aslong as you're in a big enough room with sufficient acoustic treatment like any other monitors. TBH tho, I always use headphones now
