I hate to come across as an old fart, but this sense of entitlement that many young people seem to have is ridiculous. Nobody owes you anything.
The fact you and so many others, myself included, are so disappointed at the apparent end of London DMZ nights must mean they were pretty good nights. Mala/Loefah/Coki/Pokes know what they're doing, they built a night that was incredibly successful and they built a vibe that from my experience has never been matched. Basically, they are fucking awesome at putting on dances. They know what they're doing, if they think that taking a break is the only way to let it get over it's own hype, or if they think that it'll never get back what it had, and feel it's best to stop altogether, I'm gonna trust them. Who am I (or anyone else) to say what they should do? They're a helluva lot better at putting on dances than me.

This is why System is appealing to me...I just want the Dubstep hype to die down so it can get a bit more contained. I wanna go to DMZ.

The normal ones were like half full at max, like just a bit more than the amount of people that went to system
Yeah the usual ones you could walk in whenever! The normal DMZ's were so so good!
Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
Your pissing me off, stop living under "anything mala and coki do" they are completely right. (Infact Nevalo you can do one, you can't comment on the select scene in London living in New Zealand)Nevalo wrote:that is the biggest load of wank ive ever readStuuka wrote: Of course they don't HAVE to put on a night but in a way they owe it to us for all the support we've given them. They created the scene, the created all the vibes, they purchased all their vinyl, they made money through themselves. (Of course they didn't!)
Us fans have played a big role in things too. All i'm saying is it's that tradition and the thing that we come together in, and it's a real shame they've thrown us off! Not even a message saying "we're gonna have a break from DMZ in London for the time being", they don't HAVE to, but it would be nice. Keep the fans involved.
Artists NEED fans. We need Artists. As I said it works both ways
but seriously
You can't talk on here without a die hard fanatic pain, "i'm such a head everything they do, is right and has made it what it is"
Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
completely agree. it's like all the whinging about how long swamp81 releases were taking to put out. these people don't owe you anything so be glad for what you've gotmeanmrcustard wrote:I hate to come across as an old fart, but this sense of entitlement that many young people seem to have is ridiculous. they can do whatever they want quite frankly, and they're far busier these days when DMZ first began so i can totally understand if they lack the desire to put on another night that they get a load of shit for. as people have mentioned, DMZ isn't anything on what it used to be and i'm sure the organisers are feeling that as much, if not more, than the people who've made it to the nights over the years
no one is saying that whatever they do is right, we're just saying that they can do whatever they want to. people put artists on pedestals and go on like they're ambassadors for the music, but at the end of the day these are people and they have other commitments. if you weren't getting the same as you once did out of nights that you put on would you keep doing it for the sake of fans? i know i wouldn'tStuuka wrote:bla bla bla poor me
if it was about money they would keep putting on nights that they don't care about because i'm sure the DMZ birthdays must have made a killing
agree with this though:

Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
it's not like they aren't doing a 7th birthday at all... it's just in amsterdam. it's been in london every time before, people that live a bus/tube journey away have been really lucky to be able to go to these nights, let's not all cry about it because it's not on your doorstep and let's all have a fucking sick time at system next month

They know this only too well. Mala said as much at the end of the DMZ night at last years Outlook, words to the effect of "DMZ isn't about me or Loe or Coki or Pokes, it's about you lot. You make this what it is. Without you this would be nothing." and similar words were spoken at the end of System iirc.Stuuka wrote:the legacy they've built is built by them but supported by us. The whole DMZ gang seem like a very humble bunch. I doubt they're sitting there rubbing their hands together thinking up new ways to be mean to us, I just don't think any of them like the lime light very much (esp Coki) and so like to keep things on the QT. It all adds to the mystique of DMZ.

EDIT: Just seen the other thread. Get in.
Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
So only people from London support DMZ? If anything they owe it to the fans in the UK who travel far to London not to make a mess of it like last year. I live in Manchester and going Amsterdam wouldn't cost a great deal more than going London for the weekend. Flights are cheaper than a train and im sure you can find a cheap hostel for less than hotels in London. Plus a weekend in Amsterdam.. much more appealing than a weekend in London.Stuuka wrote:I think you guys defend them far too much, you've really got to stop acting like it's a religion and that they are Gods.
Of course they don't HAVE to put on a night but in a way they owe it to us for all the support we've given them. They should support us as much as we support them, the legacy they've built is built by them but supported by us. Us as the fans have made them who they are today, don't forget that!
It's a give and take relationship!
Some people have to make some insane journeys in order to see DJs they support. Here to Amsterdam is not far at all. Fair enough it is expensive for some but its not like there are a shortage of amazing nights in London lol.
Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
i'm really glad that the 7ths birthday is in amsterdam. i would'nt have the possibility to go to a dmz night otherwise. london is so fucking expensive for a guy from germany... and for tomorrow night i took a train at thursday for 10 hours to catch a cheap train. i'm jealous of you guys who had the pleasure to be at a night at the mass.
maybe the dmz crew want to make it possible for guys like me to go to a dmz birthday and thats why it's in amsterdam.
i'm looking forward to tomorrow evening.

Re: No DMZ Birthday in London?
It's in Amsterdam as part of the 5 days off festival in Amsterdam, they aren't just packing up and moving it to amsterdam for no reason lol.
And stuuka mate, why do you think these people owe you anything? You sure as hell weren't there at the early DMZ's showing support, come in after DMZ has been going for like 4+ years and then try and say that they owe you something?
Peeps got it pretty damn good and y'all are complaining about a 100 quid return flight and a fucking weekend in Amsterdam...
Probably the same people complaining they have to go 'all' that way to Croatia for Outlook, when you got heads coming from all over the world. It's called a bit of budgeting and saving instead of pissing away all your cash so you can do nice things like this.
Swear down Londoner's got it so good and a lot of you aren't even realising it. Seriously some self-entitled bullshit.

Never been to DMz in London but I went to their 7th in Amsterdam... pure vibes, great system, enough room to feel comfortable and superb athmosphere. So I for one am very glad they chose Amsterdam!
