Online Music Production School?

Post by ScarletCyanide » Sun Mar 11, 2012 3:23 pm

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone knows if sites like http://www.pointblankonline.net/ or http://www.productionmusiconline.com/ are any good? The courses seem very expensive (£750 for a Logic course) but are you getting what you pay for? I'd love to do one of these, but wouldn't know where to start either! I'd like to become a music producer, making dubstep, house and being a widely knowledgable producer in all areas of sound design etc, so which course would be best? A generic Logic course? What's your opinions on these courses etc? Thanks!

Spend your money upgrading your setup (new monitors, decent vsts etc.).

Read "How to make a sound".

Spend a lot of time producing, experimenting, creating patches etc.

Imo you will be a lot better off with that use of £750 than shelling out for any online course for LOGIC.

I will third not wasting money on that. You can EASILY learn all that stuff for free on the internet with some digging...not even that much digging, LOL. And you can probably buy a descent DVD series on Logic for way less. And if the class is online you aren't even getting the benefit of working with an instructor and peers live, which in my mind would be the benefit of classes over youtube videos.

dubspot is what you're looking for. however, as stated above you are much better off spending the money on quality hardware and self teaching.

Stick a sign on your bedroom door that says music production school entry $10 ... Everytime someone walks in you charge them for the 10 bucks and if you happen to be making something at the time charge the man extra 20 for a "lesson"
Paypal me $2 for a .wav of Midnight

Okay, so it seems like the general consensus is pretty anti this, whats you guys' favourite sites to learn stuff / wqtch tutorials? Could be a good thread if people discover new places to learn :D

I mean, you hand a monkey some sticks and a lighter, he will get it eventually. If you hand it to him and then show him how to use them, he'll be burning shit down within the hour. Really, it's all about the money. I was in college for music production (which turned out to be a total joke), and the summer after I left because of how shitty the program was, I taught myself waaaay more than I ever learned in class... plus I could focus on whatever I wanted. Design your own curriculum, so to speak :D

HOWEVER:

With a teacher I would have moved much faster. I would have had someone who is educated on the subject to bounce ideas off of, review my projects, critique, etc.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

it's time versus money.

huh, funny... everything seems to boil down to that...

If you are looking to spend a lil money on learning check these videos out http://www.dancemusicproduction.com/?ne ... ental-pack

I think its 75 pound for the fundamental pack and there's well over 10 hours of video

I highly recommend them :W:
