Plugins that come with it are amazing and the workflow is very well laid out and its a very easy DAW to navigate. I wouldn't touch any other DAW after using logic now, but as everyone always says DAW's are personal preference.

Only thing I will say is that I had to upgrade to a 17inch macbook pro with quad core and i7 processors and 8gb RAM from a 15inch duo core with 4gb RAM so that logic would not keep coming up with 'Audio overload' Message (other logic users here will know what I am on about ;-) ). This happens when your projects become big and intensive. I have up to 80 tracks on my projects and VST's like massive hog CPU like a bitch (especially if you have quite a few instances of them), So if your going to be using intensive VST's and racking up loads of tracks then make sure your iMac is packing heat in the RAM and processor area. Alternatively, bounce as much as you can down to audo as we all know midi uses more CPU

Bearing in mind its only gonna have Logic, my Vst's and samples on it

Do you reckon the imac 27 i5 with 8gb ram will run logic smooth ??

Logic is apparently the shit.

Everyone I've met who produces uses it, no word of a lie.

It just seems to be the industry standard so there must be a reason for that.

It wasn't that way before apple bought out emagic around the year 2000. Stopped being fun once all my plugins stopped working with 5.5.1 on pc lol

i looked at logic and hated it
imo apple tries too hard to make things slick looking and they just end up hard to navigate
also the latest version of Final Cut is a POS minor step up from iMovie consumer-grade bullshit apps. they killed the professional features and functionality of it and they might do the same thing with Logic... Garageband gets a little better, Logic gets a little more dumbed down, til finally they meet in the middle because apple thinks "everyone should be a producer! we're all SO creative!"

Bought my iMac and got Logic the day after. Haven't even tried again to Rewire into Reason. Such horror..

What's with the fever pitch orgy of Apple consumers bumming the shit out of Apple products? I see it everywhere and don't get it. Serious question.

The teacher at Uni majourly bums Apple and got us all to pay £50 for this Apple Certified course on something I'm not even interested in to get a certificate that'll be redundant by the time I leave uni. He fuckin foams at the mouth about Apple shit and it's the same from every other Mac/Ipad/pod e.t.c. user as far as I can tell. What is that about

I use a cork a toothpick and a shoebox to make my tunes. Its not the size of your cock 'n all that

GET EXPRESS!!! Logic Pro gives you a couple extra plugins and some samples you'll never use. Apart from maybe the space designer but there are much better reverbs out there

Logics piano roll is awful, and wish there was a dedicated sidebar for samples (like FL studio). Love the built in effects and everything else though

i got logic coming from reason and its awesome!

im running on a 15" macbook pro 2.4ghz i7 quad, 8gb of ram, ssd + hdd combo. runs logic and a bunch of plugs like a dream.

you'll be fine with the i5, but the i7 is always welcome.

also i wouldnt worry about buying logic now, even if 10 does come out at the end of the month, you will get a free upgrade anyway. they always offer a grace period.

I'm using express, and honestly there's a very minuscule difference between express and pro.

And yeah, the only thing I don't like about logic is its piano roll, but I use mostly audio anyways.

Why is everyone using this "industry std" garbage all the time nowadays??
So many DAWS are classified as industry std now.

Can someone in practical terms break down the differences between xpress and pro. Pro is heafty expensive again, no? Thought it was cheaper before.

I used to use Cubase and Reason, now i just use Logic, it may seem superficial to say but it looks better, and when you're staring at a screen for hours at a time it does help, it feels more polished. It doesn't do anything that the others can't tho.

your prof sounds like a bit of a knob but I can only speak for myself. I've never stood in line for a gadget, never touched an ipad, and I have my first gen iPhone 1. I bought it and stuck with it, because i'm hooked on the Mac OS and GUI. I bought a Mac Pro tower to produce, because it was the best gear i could afford and had compatibility with my preferred software.

That all being said, mac can eat a dick because i hate them, but their products are better than the competition

Express (discontinued, was 199 €) is very good, but doesn't have all the features such as 5.1 surround mixing. Logic Pro is 149,99 € and available as download via the App Store.
