Re: Dafuq - Lighter
I like the intro a lot. I think the lead synths are a bit hot in comparison to the drums, so it makes the percussion sound weak behind it. Since the lead synths come full blast before the buildup (starting at :29), it 'blew it's load' so to speak so the drop at 1:02 doesn't have as much of an impact. Really cool ambient synths!

I wrote it down, will definitely use it the next time.
Re: Dafuq - Lighter
Agreed with ENDIGO. The drop is incredibly weak after that build and the percussion, especially the kick, needs to be a lot more dominant.
The soundscape is also really thin and the elements are rather acting on their own than together. The mix > an individual sound. <-Always.
Also add to the low mid-range, it gives the track a lot more body; make the percussion more prominent and make it work well together with the bass before anything else.

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
Yup agree with the rest. Those really fast wobbles don't work like that either I find...
I love the pad-ish synths you've got going in the intro, but the drop is weak. Either the synths are too loud or the drums too low haha. Just keep working on it!

Thanks! I will definitely work that out the next songs, but a simple question.KoenDercksen wrote:Yup agree with the rest. Those really fast wobbles don't work like that either I find...

You guys think that I have the potential to master the skills and great descent songs?

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
I`d say everything is sounding good except for the midrange wobbles which imo are aweful.
The track needs to change up a bit more as the beat is boring, repetitive and unexciting, from a mixdown and energy standpoint.
Imo this track shines more from an ambient point of view.
Rather change the track into something more laid back and less 'bro'
Give it a nice deep sub and allow the pad to move around the space.

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
Well the high bro sound depends on everyone's own style.
I always liked the Brostep like Bar9, Foreign Beggars, Flux Pavilion, Nero etc.
But thanks for the other tips, it really helps me out!

i`m just trying to give straight up feedback.
I think the sounds being used have more potential as a chilled track.

Here's an exercise to revisit the mixdown on the track:
Now that you've exported your track to mp3, create a new project file, and import the mp3 into the project on one track.
Then take a track by one of the artists you mentioned above, and import that mp3 into its own track.
Now:
1. Get them to the same overall volume, so that when you solo one track, it doesn't sound louder/softer than the other when you solo the other. It should be a pretty smooth transition. But you'll notice the volume of the drums on the other track is MUCH louder, at least relative to your's.
2. Boost your track volume so the DRUMS match the volume of the other track, now you'll notice just how loud your synths really are
That's when you'll start seeing that the mixdown is not about lifting levels, it's about shaving them and making room for elements to sit next to each other. If something sticks out or hides a sound, it's usually too loud. If you can't hear an element behind another, it might as well not be there because it's taking up space that muddles the rest of the track.
Words of wisdom from a good friend of mine:
In the mixdown process, it doesn't matter how loud your track is (in digital anyway). Loudness comes in during mastering, at the very end. With that in mind, when it comes to making something louder, you have two options. You can either move the fader up, OR -> -> -> -> (the golden ticket) lower the volume of EVERYTHING ELSE, TOGETHER. It achieves the same effect, without the risk of clipping your track AND you actually GIVE the track headway in gain which helps the mix and makes your desired track louder in the mix. win win win.
Hope that helps

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
This. I'd delete those 'laser' things whatever those sounds are.. they're really sharp and harsh on the ears.. get rid of the mid-range wobbles and try finish the tune in a completely different direction you took it. After that intro it has potential to be a decent ambient chill out tune. Give it a go, see what you come up with!Electric_Head wrote:Imo this track shines more from an ambient point of view.

Re: Dafuq - Lighter
i really like the hard synths starting at about 0:30. however, i agree that they should come in with the drop. i also think that they should have some midrange bass or sub backing them up. i also don't like the midrange wobble.
Re: Dafuq - Lighter
Thanks for all the advice and feedback!
I took it with me in my new track!

The into is almost an exact copy of the YouTube tutorial video "how to really make dubstep"... It's not even your music.
