Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ Globalz I really love the melodic approach during the intro, but I'm not so into the midrange synth after the intro. It sounds fine, but it's just not my cup of tea, only a personal thing. I feel like the drums could use a little bit more life as well. The kick needs some color to it as do the other drums. Over all it's sounding really great, it's not my style of music, but I definitely see the talent. Good job.
@ Grok I'm finding this tune quite interesting. I'm so glad I didn't hear any loud mid range synths anywhere in it. I feel like so many people just put crazy mid-range synths in their tunes just for the sake of being loud and filthy. I love the melodicism shown in this tune. It also progresses very nicely, no abrupt starts or changes, which is great considering the different sections in your tune, that's something I myself really need to work on. As far as the sound I feel that everything actually sounds really good. Drums are nice and full of life and that little laser synth is great. I really enjoyed this tune! Finally a tune that isn't all pointless filthy wobbles! Loved it.
@ difference Loving the chord progressions in the intro, nice smooth, jazzy and dark. This so far is by far my favorite tune I've listened to on this thread today. I really love the vibe, so dark, but yet so relaxed and smooth. The drums sound great and fit the tune perfectly. Also the bass is really nice and low but at some points I think it's too low and sounds a little muffled. I really loved everything about this tune and I don't even know what else to say haha! It's just great!I listened to the whole thing twice! Also, since your music is pretty close to the music that I would like to make, please let me know what you think of my tune because I value your opinion especially. Also, check out the whole tune because it's got a lot of progression and changes. Thanks man.
1stfeist Not my style of dubstep, but even saying that I generally think that the only thing that is ESSENTIAL in dubstep...is bass. You're tune has absolutely no sub bass in it, and that's the most important part of any dubstep tune. It's so frustrating that people think these days that a mid range loud synth is "bass"...no. If you added some bass to your tune, it might actually be an okay sounding tune. Without it, your tune is just a skeleton of a tune, that has potential but until it gets that sub-bass it's nothing. Remember, a mid range synth isn't bass, at all. I feel like so many kids get all caught up in the hype and want to make the craziest thing possible (not saying that you are) and forget about the most important thing, bass. Definitely has potential, but you forgot the essentials. It's not all about mid range craziness man!
This is my 4th tune. I really tried to make it progress as I do with all of my tunes. Hopefully you will listen to the whole thing and really listen to the progressions and new sounds. One thing is for sure, if you're on laptop speakers, don't even bother, this tune is FILLED with heavy sub bass so if you're into the crazy filthy stuff that is all about a stupid ass "drop", don't bother. I really appreciate all the feedback in advance and I ask that you give me your honest opinion. I'm still learning and I really am completely clueless with this stuff, but let me know what you think! Remember, listen to the changes all the way through!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
well, i'd agree my tune is lacking a bit of bass in some parts. but there is a subtle low sub bass but the bitcrusher takes most of it out and i was scared to put another sine wave over the midranges incase it overdone it. but i guess ill give you what you want with another remastered version XDCornbreadddd wrote:1stfeist Not my style of dubstep, but even saying that I generally think that the only thing that is ESSENTIAL in dubstep...is bass. Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
At 1stflest first tune: Decent arrangement and different sounding mid range is nice but i think it def needs to be hitting much harder(subass will not mud your mid range down if mixed properly) for it to work.... also man i suggest not staying in halftime the entire track as this will make the drums more interesting mate.
grok: Overall nice flow man mixdown sounds bout rite and i can vibe off your style so big ups mane.
cornbread:fuck yea man not some heavy club track but i can see kode9 playing this badboy out, nice drums, nice job harmonizing instruments, and overall nice flow.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
My feedback is the above post.
So im doing some tracks in 105bpm now that i realize they can mixed into 140bpm as a triplet(its weird but if you can get 12/8 drum pattern of 105 to line up with a 4/4 pattern in 140 your golden)
CHECK IT il be pushing this genre until it gets popular
FEEDBACK FOR FUNKY BASS TRACK PLEASE.

@BudSpencertron - Sick start man I like where it's going. The sounds really play well on the ear, just a suggestion; maybe try a panning effect on and off to add a little something extra but besides that I cant really think of anything else to say. Variation variation variation. Good start.
@1stfiest - Nice start man, what program are you using? The part around 1:30 sounds super cool, drums sound clean just need a little variation here and there and you got yourself a track. Maybe throw in some sparced arps here and there or some echoy reverb. Good start, nice samples too.
@Cornbreadddd - Quality fuckin tune man! Great soulful bass music right there, I dont have much to say because its already really good. Excellent work.
Ok I just pressed this one hot out of reason. Im going for minimal wet sounding bass, looking for advice and criticism on this track. Thanks guys

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
crackasteven Hey man thanks a lot for the feedback. Honestly man I'm really feeling this tune. I think there is so much power in a tune when the music fades out a bit and then the snare hits and the reverb rides out. You did that perfectly in this tune. The sample is nice, the bass is nice and low, just like it should be. The synth is nice and punchy, none of this mindless midrange garbage that a lot of people are latching on to. I honestly really dig this tune man, looking forward to hearing the full thing. Great, I honestly have no negatives man, everything sounds nice!

@ Cornbreadddd - really like the vibe you put into that track, very chill. which i assume was the direction you went with it
@1stfiest - i like this track, its not bad at all. a little bit of cleaning up around the bass area, and personally i think your snare sounds a wee bit weak imo
@ Hero - Funky bass huh? for some reason your track reminded something daft punk would do. other than that the flow of the track is well put. can't wait for you to progress it

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
crackasteven massive track you bastard huge skank !!!!
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@thelastthing - nice track, a little repetitive, not too bad though, it needs some EQing for sure. Cool vibe for sure though.
@Cornbread - Nice vibe bro, great drum programming. I can almost hear some minimal vocals in there.
@Crakasteven - Sounds nice, EQing is great! You got something solid there for sure.
Here's my newest track, still working on it but i need some feedback please. Top track in sig... If only is the name.

[dnb] work in progress
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
thanks for the feedback guys, true about the weak sounding snare, I didn't have the drumkit I usually use installed on this mac so I will change it when I get back to the studio. for those that are wandering I am using logic pro and some instruments I have picked up free from "computer music magazine" and some effects from a rack and ruin sample pack that is really nice. Iv'e been saving up drum samples now for years from many external sources but i didn't manage to use the ones i like on this track so I'll definitely go back to the drums.
Unfortunately soundcloud removed my track due to copyright infringement so I have contacted Atlantic Records requesting a copy of the mechanical license for this track. It's highly unlikely that they will give me one and most likely take me to court over it
but we'll see!
anyway here is a copy I have put on youtube instead
Now time for some feedback ^^
@ Rylee Instant funk on this track I like it! Kinda reminds me of totally enormous extinct dinosaurs. I think the gritty bass kinda ruins the song, and should stick to a low sub bass and nice melodies, for this track only.
@ Thelastthing nice intro
kinda reminds me of Broken Notes stuff, and nice buildup to the drop. I think the lazer sound when it drops is a bit overpowering but the bassline is nice and alternating and samples are awesome, like the drop at around 1:28 but again the super mario lazer sounds are a bit overpowering. nice tune though!
@ Crackasteven AWESOME! Love basslines like this. reminds me of this genetix tune.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw7z3XR5ltg But quite alot of artists are making dubs with this kinda step. Little bit of work and some effects in a break down just to bide sometime before a 2nd drop and you got a nice finished tune

@RyLee
Like the flow of this track mate. The bass synth is really something else. I like it. The sidechain is a bit too noticable for my taste, but thats just my preference.
@thelastthing
This could become a very heavy track. But the mix is still a bit unbalanced I think. The kick, snare and sub could be a bit louder compared to the mid bass and leads. Like the progression so far, so no complaints there.
@Hero
Very tight mix mate. Kinda reminds me of Koan Sound. The drums are powerfull, which I like =P. I wonder what you will do with the vocals at the end.

i really appreciate in depth feedback like this, thank you very much. big ups to cosmic surgeon as well for his feedback a few pages back. positive comments all around on this track so far i'm pretty stoked (it's my first crack at production)Cornbreadddd wrote:@ difference Loving the chord progressions in the intro, nice smooth, jazzy and dark. in regards to your track cornbread i really like it but it definitely needs some love in the mixing department. that dungeon growl should come out more in the mix and frequency wise things are sounding a bit cluttered. the vibes are nice and i definitely like the changeups throughout the track. a nice thing to sip the morning coffee too

you might want to work on 2:15-3:15 a little more, starts to get a little repetitive. also it sounds like you were definitely inspired by Cyrus - Hot Pan

@basebass interesting idea, not my kind of tune really (gonna stop saying that, nothing productive) but the bass/synth is stepping all over the percussion. i think the mix needs to be more well rounded however it also sounds like this is a fairly early on WIP.
@1stfeist track sounds cool, would be nice to hear the cello or whatever that is a little less distorted. definitely has more of a hip hop feel than it does dubstep, which is cool. like the use of vocals. good luck getting that licensed lol.
just reuploaded my track (sig) i'm comfortable with the sequence of things now i've moved on to the super fun mixing/EQ process

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@BaseBass - Thanks for the feedback, do you mean the sidechaining in general or on a particular sound? Awesome start to a track by the way, sounds sick. Mix sounds damn good so far.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Basebass oh god thats one of best tunes round here! but try to make drop more powerful than intro.
1stfiest try to variate bass, and make it sound not so empty
matthew b I always love dnb with wobbles! make more tunes like this
Soundcloud
I made this only with samples that come with FL studio. I USED NO VSTs.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@RyLee
Well I think that the bass and leads fade in a bit to slow after the kick or snare hits. It could be a bit tighter together I tink =).
@Sunshaft
Thanks mate! Yeah I'm trying my best to make the drop a beast, but i'm having a bit of trouble getting it to strike with more power than the part before it. Any tips?

basebass I use only slight limiter to prevent clipping, and I turn on multiband compressor when bass drops.

@1stfiest
I am not sure whether you have a subbass or not but I can barely feel those nice wubs you've got going on. Not necessarily my favorite type of 2step but has alot of potential. I wouldn't mind hearing melodies and melodic fx in your intro to compliment the dungeoun dark vibe? Perhaps some interesting detuned keys then adding reverse reveb effect to em to create a dark, eerie vibe. It's definitely groovy and dark, something I can see myself hearing in one of the local raves since that dungeon dubstep is an obsession for many out here. But yeah overall groovy tune my friend, Id suggest making your subbass a bit louder and compressed or actually put one under if you havent already lol, keep it up bro
@Cornbreadddd
Very very stellar tune, reminds me of LNA and I LOVE LNA. You have a very calming and groovy feel to it. I like your keys and subbass work. Everything about it is great. I wouldn't change a thing
@Hero
Very cool sound man, reminds me of the 80s. I like the arrangements and mixdown, one thing I don't find that suits the mix is your snare, I feel it should have a punchy prominent snare and extra percussion but that's my opinion, overall a very cool track man, I like it
@crakasteven
Nice kick mate! I like your mixdown it's very atmospheric while maintaining a very minimalistic vibe, right on mate, I suggest adding subtle changes or variety in your basses to create interesting grooves which all would still retain the minimal groove of it all
You should try adding feedback fx if you have either massive or ohmicide vst, you can create some interesting rhythmic fxs with distortion and feedback on your synths then occassionally slap a couple step-cuts of it in your mix to create something unique and original, that's what I'd do if I had this as a foundation, overall nice intro, or drop?
@thelastthing
decent track, it's chaotic and industrial-like! I think your kick should be a little cleaner and prominent, and maybe some compression on your midrange bass
@Rylee
Get a new snare/clap! and your kick needs some midrange frequencies cut a little because it's sounding very blocky or bulk, however you wanna say it, everything else is great bro. I love your progressions and melodies, something I would definitely listen to, just the drum elements need more clarity and perhaps better samples in my own opinion. Your drop is nice, I like the 501 vibe you've got on lol, you should trying adding some arppeggiators and melodic fx in small portions through out your drop to maintain interest in the listeners , but thats my opinion bro, Im not here to tell you how to make your tune , I love your melody work
@Matthew-B
holy automation batman. I like your groove man, very gritty, I think it lacks in something though,try layering your bass a bit more or compress/distort a bit, everything is nice though, I like your mixdown, one thing confuses me though is your clipping in some of your mixer channels, especially your kick I believe. Perhaps bring down the levels of everything including your til your kick mixer channel isnt clipping, overall grimey work my friend
@BaseBass
Eerie and futuristic-like
I like your reese/growl type bass you've got going on. I like this intro, I can picture myself playing some halo xbl to this lol
Very cool drop, it's inbetween brostep chaos to dungeon and I like. Your drop has nice metalic and shiny elements that create that futuristic vibe. I don't hear anything wrong with your mixdown to be honest, unless I have subpar monitors (which I do) lol . overall cool song mang
@Difference
I love your rhodes/keys in this song, very late night casual vibe which I LOVE that's filled with dreamy vibes yet somewhat a lonesome touch to it, it's interesting
Please finish it asap, I am really loving this track actually. Everything is great, I suggest adding a little tiny bit of reverb on your snares and perhaps a nice brassy string or some sort of nice string to soar nicely at the top of it all. This one's an inspiration!
Okay guys I think I covered the entire page when I started
, I hope non of you skip me! which happens all the time anyways!
anyways, something I started last night, it's electro at 134, very repetitive but there is progression every time so it's not too horrendous plus it has dubstep elements of course, I am simply seeking better mixdown advice, I feel once I have a solid subbass to kick and subbass to midrange bass relationship, given the 3 heaviest elements in this song, I want them sitting nicely before I start adding much more complex sounds and arrangements because it gets boring after a while lol so yeah, I need more critism on my mixdown instead of the arrangement and melodies because frankly I haven't focused on that yet lol
Soundcloud

anyways, something I started last night, it's electro at 134, very repetitive but there is progression every time so it's not too horrendous plus it has dubstep elements of course, I am simply seeking better mixdown advice, I feel once I have a solid subbass to kick and subbass to midrange bass relationship, given the 3 heaviest elements in this song, I want them sitting nicely before I start adding much more complex sounds and arrangements because it gets boring after a while lol so yeah, I need more critism on my mixdown instead of the arrangement and melodies because frankly I haven't focused on that yet lol
