Anyone know any good Chiptune and Glitch vsts?

Post by BYTEME » Fri Mar 16, 2012 6:04 am

I already have Bit Crusher and DBlue Glitch.
I'm looking for some free vsts that can glitch sounds, and I'm also looking for some chiptune vsts/plugins. (Because Magic8BitPlugin isn't good enough, it's too... Minimal on the controls.)

So please posts some links and such, to help me.

(I already checked Wooly's 8Bit stuff, NONE OF THEM WORKED. They all crashed, didn't make any sound or were even worth use on my FL Studio.)

If you are making a song that is pure 8-bit, I suggest using a tracker like Famitracker (not a VST, a separate program).

Here is an all round synth that I really am a fan of, its great for all kinds of music, but if you keep it simple, you can get some nice chiptune sounding sounds

http://www.braindoc.de/

Go to VST>Agressor

If you use just the pure waves, then it should give you some cool sounds.

Other than that, sorry I have nothing. For 8 bit stuff I always use a tracker.

Minimal is how it should be, 8bit programming was very limited.
Any synth with saw, pulse and triangle is capable of great 8bit sounds though. A noise osc helps but you can easily work without one. Your sig says FL User, 3xosc is great for video game sounds.

gwEm made a nice Atari emulation VST : http://www.preromanbritain.com/ymvst/

All free

I've been making Chiptune for years, I usually use LSDJ on my Gameboy, and I now use Nanoloop for my iPod and iPhone.
But I've always been trying to find something similar to use with FL Studio.

I'm not exactly trying to make pure 8-bit. I'm just doing an EXTREMELY MINIMAL project. :}

606, 808, and tiny sound waves. The only difficulty I really ever have is making up a melody that will make you want to party, without keeping the same 4x4 drum beat all the time, and adding simplistic effects for the build ups and etc. :P
I've been using white noise too for some sounds.

Well, really I'm looking for something to add an LFO to the sounds. Or something to crush and glitch them.

Wooly's didn't work. They all either crashed, failed to open, or make FL Studio's sound stop working. So I removed all the vsts I got from there.

Chip vsts^
Famisynth 2 is pretty fun to muk around with.
Also, Fm synths can make some interesting chip sounds.

I'm not aware idol any VSTs but wouldn't you just be able to use a sampler VST with some NES samples?

Well to add LFOs, you can use MIDI data to add an LFO to anything. Something like MIDIShaper: http://www.cableguys.de/midi-shaper.html
Or for free MIDIMod: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jez.price/effects.htm

Make good use of the granulizer in FL, it can do some great glitching effects... but the best glitch plugin is ScissorsTool.dll

Chip32 is really simple and worth checking out. Anything with pwm should do the job. Or run a sine wave or white noise through a bitcrusher effect.

Every single one? If that's the case, you're doing something wrong; I've used loads of plugins downloaded from there, and I just tried a couple of random ones right now and they work fine. Maybe there was something wrong with the server when you downloaded them initially, so give it another shot. If still none of them work, it's a problem on your end, as those plugins are all made by different developers...

id say download crystal since its free + learn how to use it then your sorted for chiptune sounds (and many other sounds) :W:
messing with the fm and ring mod mods in there helps creating nice sound chip style sounds that i havent heard before
it will take a while to learn how to use this synth but its really good!

Yeah jokes, just meant the best way to do it is to chop up audio and sequence with and without quantize the way you want it. Glitch plugins have a certain sound that is easy to recognise. They can be useful, but way too many people just throwing it on the master and going for some Exile type crap.
