there's a lot of things you can do that gets you involved with music and can help your musical carreer .

maybe (tour)maneger , large eventplanning , promo for artists , sound engineering ( as in , building/developing sound systems)

I have gotten advice from a lot of helpful people on this forum. From what I now know getting into the music industry is a bitch. If you want to do production it seems like you have to be a gimmick. I say keep music as a hobby. The most important thing is being able to provide for a family (if you plan on having one) and to be able to afford a roof over your head.
