Its like a Rev down effect. I would start with a saw wave and a square wave. Sounds like they are looping the attack/decay and slowing the loop down towards the end. There seems to be a lot of high end to that sound. I would have a low pass filter cut off at 1khz. Have your lfo modulate the filter with a down saw wave for 2bars. Thats where i would start. There is alot going on with that sound so you probably have to experiment.

Zeds Dead

Post by PatrickReza » Sat Mar 17, 2012 6:11 pm

Hey guys, so I have to do a project for my music production class.
I'm recreating a Zeds Dead track and I really need some good
tutorials/presets/patches/anything that can put me in the right
direction as far as creating similar synths like them. Your help
is much appreciated!

What kind of synths (names) do they use? etc.
Where do they get/make sfx, etc?

Cheers,
PatrickReza

Well, what track were you planning to recreate?
Also how much time do you have to recreate the track you wanted? Since if you have no idea where to start, you might as well choose something easier no?

Using a preset does not equal creating or recreating anything, it equals preset. As in no work involved.

I thought this topic was about Zed being killed or something. :-O Don't scare me like that! :6:

btw Zed was my nickname in Counter-Stike when I was a kid. :]

One key to achieving their sound is their drum kit... it's a tad atypical how they do their snares so take note. Their synths are pretty easy to recreate in massive -- if I remember, their classic sound is just a basic square wave with a sample & hold... automating the resonance. Other than that, just grab yourself some oldies acapellas and keep the mix nice and dark

I'm pretty sure the op implied that he's going to be making a song, as in more than just one sound. This implies more than just using a preset... and therefore most likely creating something.

This is really starting to become a forum full of cocks. Are you serious? You sounded serious. If you are, you are truly an elitist prick, and it's no wonder you're sitting around on a dubstep message board mocking people who use presets rather than enjoying your own miserable life.

Oh I'm sure you get his point and just want to interpret his post the wrong way.

This OP comes to us asking for presets for a project that he has to do for class. That's like asking an internet board to do your maths homework...
I mean, he chooses to recreate something by Zeds Dead, which would imply that he has at least a vague idea of how to go about it. Sounds logical right? :6:
Now asking for presets gives some people, including me, the impression that OP is either too lazy ór just not experienced/skilled enough to do it himself. An easy solution would be choosing something that isn't as hard...
I'm sure you don't think it's normal either to come to a board like this one and ask for presets on something you want to recreate, for school out of all things. You're supposed to learn something from it.

wow. if you want to make good dubstep it should sound original. dubstep is not about unique composition usually, or even arrangement to a certain extent. I'd reckon at least half of it is in the sound design, so it's pretty out of line to come up on here asking us to help you duplicate an entire song full of crazy noises. Maybe not out of line, but deffo barking up the wrong tree if you've spent more than 5 minutes here.

Someones mad that they don't know enough about sound design to make any of their own sounds worth half a shit.

statement has been misconstrued... sure basic a is an elitist prick but you shouldn't go on (using what is implied) calling him a cock. and how do you know he is on a messaging board purely mocking others? your post was as ludicrous as you had interpreted basic a's post to be. OP shouldn't be asking for presets that is like asking for money from complete strangers just because you are too lazy to get some sort of job. this sub forum is full of nufaags (not homophobic) now which is why I lurk most of the time.

(also yes i know my statement in defense of basic a is weak so pls forgive wub if I sounded like a cheeky bastard)

@OP, to put you in the right direction sound design period

it's all trial and error and you may never achieve similar sounds to zeds dead OR you may, depends. USE GOOGLE FOR TUTORIALS ( i dont mean to sound like an asshole either so i am apologizing if I came off as one [yes i am a pussy apologizng for nothing] )

edit: here's for starters, you would need native instrument's massive synthesizer.

Hey so i guess some of you guys took it the wrong way when i said presets. I've been working with Massive for about 3 years now and making music for the past 4 professionally. (I'm opening for 12th Planet on 420 in Santa Barbara if you guys wanna come!) hahaha anyways, i'm recreating white satin and while i have some synths that are spot on, some just dont sound quite right. I was just asking for help no need to turn into pretentious douchebags over a simple producer to producer talk. Besides, I though forums were for helping people out. Not sitting behind your monitors and typing rude shit to each other.
